U.S. Army May Cut Key Education Benefits As Service Struggles To Recruit And Retain Troops

The Army is revisiting two education benefits seen as key recruiting and retention tools and used by more than 100,000 soldiers annually as the service struggles to hang on to troops and resources, the service confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation on Monday.

Two programs under review include the Credentialing Assistance (CA) program that allotted soldiers up to $4,000 per year to earn civilian qualifications, and the Tuition Assistance (TA) program that helped troops further their formal education, Military.com first reported.

But, the outlet could not determine what sparked considerations to reduce the programs or whether Congressional dictates forced the Army to move money typically devoted to continuing education toward other priorities.

“The Army recognizes the value of both to support our soldiers’ professional development and readiness levels,” Army spokesperson Bryce Dubee said in a statement to the DCNF. “However, in order to ensure their long-term sustainability, the Army is conducting a thorough review of both programs.”

Education benefits have long been a cornerstone of the Army’s recruiting and retention efforts. Soldiers who qualify for the tuition assistance program, having completed at least one year of active duty service, can receive up to $250 per semester hour for a maximum of $4,500 yearly assistance for undergraduate and graduate courses. In return, they commit to two additional years of service after completing the covered schooling concurrent to their existing service obligation.

The Army spent roughly $278 million on education benefits in fiscal year 2023, according to Military.com.

“ Draftees do not need recruitment bonuses.”

Drafting this generation would be a **** show like this country hasn’t seen since the 1960s.

Volunteer! Draftee! Report to induction and basic training in pronouns, cosplay and receive orders from the transsexuals who are your "betters."

Not a motivating policy. It surely seems queer....

If the army cuts the education programs then it will a massive step closer to game over for the army.

That is the entire point of these directions which the Leftists continue to impose on the military.

The Leftists do not need and do not want a large or capable military force. It is too dangerous for the Leftists to have military organizations with any real power. They might stage a coup and replace the current rulers.

What the Leftists need is obedient police forces who can and will round up their opponents when ordered to do so. The military can be used to run the concentration camps in which many of those opponents will be placed. That does not require anything close to the present level of staffing or recruiting. The numbers will continue to drop as intended.

If Biden flew almost 1,000,000 illegals into the us
At an average airline ticket cost of $1,000 each for an international ticket.
That’s One Billion Dollars. This has money to come from somewhere.

I can say, I have met more people with advanced degrees that proudly boast the military paid for it all. They get out and take their high paid jobs.
The number of people getting some for nothing keeps growing.
These folks were never going to be loyal to anyone but themselves.
What did we get as taxpayers.. 4 to 6 years of service to pay for a doctor or lawyer to go to college.
Did that increase our military readiness or our debt?
To then brag about it. Ridiculous.

Eventually DEI will so completely destroy the volunteer armed forces a draft will be reintroduced. They have ran off their good personnel and can’t even design or build a new destroyer or cruiser class and even building and repairing current ships is a fiasco.

We’re screwed and DOD you did this to yourself with your support of the 2020 steal...

I’ll blame it on my bourbon. I’m not certain where you are going with this. I think I empathize, but,. Go back to the late ‘60s. I was a farm boy raised in the midwest. Courted by schools across the world ‘cause I was the connsumate nerd.

Full National Merit when that meant something. Finished a BA and a BS in three years (only germaine because it gave DOD 1st Army Training a headache)

Enrolled in ROTC at a second institution because my vision - from trauma - was not acceptible in my alma mater’s Navy or Airdaile programs. I did it because I thought I owed it to my country. Not because I expected anything.

When the sytem woke up to the fact that I was matriculating, and hadn’t yet gone to ‘summer camp’, pandimonium ensued.

In short, they realized I was 4F cause of past retinal damage. I sat before a medical review board, pleading to stay in.

They granted an exemption. Two years later, I was offered an RA commission and some tantilizing incentives. But I returned to civilian life.

The GI Bill made grad school a lot more pleaseant. Would I have been pissed if I was told I couldn’t take advantage of what I ahd been promised? Damn right. As now - I’m ineligible for VA benefits because of my income unless I declare/demonstrate my deficincies are service-related. That is a game I won’t suit up for.

But - there are easily 100k people world-wide enjoying a quality life today because of what I did as a biomed engineer and CV physiologist in industry.

I’ll grant you a point in that I would have done so anyhow. It was my driving passion through grad school and later in life. But how dare you compare me to a young parasite Biden or JAG who never humped an M14 in the boonies.

Rant off.
