The mayor of the ultra-liberal, near-north Chicago suburb of Evanston wants to apply for a slice of a $20 million county grant to turn an abandoned office building in his city into a new migrant shelter in a bid to help take migrants off the hands of officials in Chicago.
Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss (D) announced his intention to apply to Cook County’s recently created $100 million-dollar “disaster response and recovery” fund, of which $20 million is set aside for migrants, to help him rehab an empty office building near Church Street and Oak Avenue. Biss wants to turn the building into a new migrant transition center and shelter that could house more than 60 illegal border crossers, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Evanston needs to start a GoFundMe page to raise the 20 million. It should only take a couple days to raise that much.

Unseen result of COVID. If a company can have employees purchase their own desk, chair, internet, fix their own meals, use their own bathrooms and are still meeting job requirements; why pay millions for a building? Why pay for heating, Cooling, janitorial, utilities and insurance?

The headline doesn’t match the story. Evanston is asking for some of the $20 million set aside for shelters, not all of it. That said, shouldn’t the money be going towards the reparations that Evanston is planning to give to black residents?
You know, it must be fun to give away other people’s money.

And as a 'transition' center?
So once 60 illegals been given a few measl and a bed for two nights they're 'transition' to Chicago? Or at least the ones who can't be maids or gardeners...

And the office building is repaired and updated in the process as part of 'the take'?

We left Evanston for California in 1967 after several excellent years. Even then, the school board sent around forms to fill in to approve bussing of Black kids into our school district right on the lake.That isn’t why we moved but it might have been.
