Gov. Greg Abbott says he will sign Senate Bill 4, which would make it a state crime to cross the border between ports of entry, allow police to arrest people who do and require judges to order them to return to Mexico.
Texas lawmakers last month approved Senate Bill 4, an immigration law that would allow Texas police to arrest people for illegally crossing the border from Mexico.
SB 4, which Gov. Greg Abbott has said he will sign into law, has sparked intense debate, with opponents saying it will lead to racial profiling by police and supporters saying Texas needs to step in because the federal government isn’t doing enough to stop illegal immigration.
When Abbott signs the bill, it’s scheduled to take effect in early March.

The three-judge panel from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans now has to rule on the appeal of a lower court’s injunction that stopped Senate Bill 4 from going into effect. The same panel decided to keep SB 4 on hold a week ago until it could rule on whether the law is constitutional.
The Biden administration and civil rights organizations sued Texas to stop the law, claiming SB 4 is unconstitutional because it interferes with federal immigration laws.
You mean it’s not a crime ?
Anyone here in Texas who disagrees with the law is WELCOME TO LEAVE - there are 49 other states with about half of them PERFECTLY HAPPY to have America-Haters move in.
We the posters need to keep our Representatives, Senators and
others informed and pushing for border security. Our nation is
changing dramatically either for the good or the bad. I guess
that has been true ever since Columbus sailed in 1492.
“You mean it’s not a crime ?”
There are 195 countries in the world with 194 of them making people in the country subject to arrest by ANY Law Enforcement Authority. But then there’s only ONE COUNTRY that allows a party as self-hating as the Democrats to obtain power.
Of course it’s a crime. It’s trespassing.
“The Biden administration and civil rights organizations sued Texas to stop the law, claiming SB 4 is unconstitutional because it interferes with federal immigration laws.”
I have heard that is not true.
Federal immigration law is primarily controls what the fed.gov does to legal and illegal aliens when they are in the US.
Stopping an alien from entering the US illegally is not the sole jurisdiction of the feds.
Is that right or wrong?
.
Not on the state level.
The states have never had to do the job before. That was the feds job. But... since the fed is not interested the state is going to have to pick up the slack.
Of course it’s a crime. It’s trespassing.
********
True and what the gov’t needs to do is charge them with the crime
and then sentence them to serve 6-months working for the gov’t in
some form of labor to clean things up, plant trees, gardens for the
invalid, cook/clean for them, etc. There are lots of chores that could
be assigned and help both the populace and needy. Then return them
back to their home land. They can file for legal immigration and if
approved they can come back. JMO
It’s a thought...but then you have to have someone supervise them. OUT they go. But it’s surely a thought.
Texas declared an invasion
All the authority we need.
I have friends who are State Troopers assigned to the border.
Problem is the highways are full of people driving 20 to 30 mph over the speed limit on the highways because they know there aren’t enough troopers on the roads.
I’m glad the troopers are on the border however.
“because the federal government isn’t doing enough to stop illegal immigration.”
The feral government is doing NOTHING to stop illegal immigration. It is promoting the invasion.
Kudos, Texas and Gov. Abbott.
Re-entering the US after one has been deported for illegal entry is a crime that carries a Federal prison sentence.
Too bad that law is never enforced.
L
Supremes said it wasn't an invasion once again proving Trump's Supreme Court picks were really Mitch's picks.
