Land lines still work if the power is out. Beware that what you think of as a land line might not be one ...
If your "land line" is carried through cable or fiber, it's not a land line and it goes down when the power goes down.

MY land line is on a system that has buried wires put in about 50 years ago.

My fiber is backed up by generators at the phone company.
My house has a UPS powering the fiber-to-wire converter.
I have a generator in the barn.
(And... two old, perfectly good CB radios collecting dust in the garage.)
