Men are turning away from college and the shift could have profound implications for the economy, their health and the American family.
Today, only 39% of young men who have completed high school are enrolled in college, down from 47% in 2011, according to a recent analysis by Pew Research. That works out to about 1 million fewer young men in college compared to just over a decade ago.
The trend isn’t new but as scholars like Richard Reeves have pointed out, the gradual retreat from higher education signals a larger crisis facing boys and men.

Except for engineering and some other sciences, colleges are worthless except as brainwashing factories that instill perversions and ignorance in minds.
I’m looking forward to the day when you can find a decent carpenter, or plumber, or electrician without being put on a waiting list. Looks like the men of this country are deciding to be men rather than indoctrinated idiots.
A better comparison would be between high school graduates and college graduates in fields where a college education is discretionary. This would include not only trades, but many white-collar jobs where the job functions don’t require anything more than basic competencies and good training.
Did you develop the ability to write in college?
The absolute necessity to write is learned in college. A person who can not live by email is doomed to no raises
They do reproduce but because the only produce dead babies they gain no grandchildren.
Tell that to the people at Boeing.

Because of the goobermint flooding the economy with new foreign slaves and H1Bs, the idea of paying through the nose for a useless degree and working for someone else only to have the rug pulled out from under them just before retirement becomes an anathema. Government wouldn’t try to shut it down if total freedom from their overreach didn’t pose a threat.
Apprenticeship programs are indeed the very best way to find yourself, earn a very good living and be a good member of the community..
Send a good kid off to collage and you get back a bitter tattooed up jerk with a bone in his nose..
Are young white men going to vocational school? I hear that's the case. But if we don't have many going into STEM, then our future higher paying engineering/software jobs are going to people from Asia.
“But if we don’t have many going into STEM, then our future higher paying engineering/software jobs are going to people from Asia.”
As I understand it, that was already being done - which is why young white men don’t go into tech so much anymore. That apparently happened years ago.
That is true to an extent. Yes, Asian workers have suppressed wages. But you can still earn a pretty good living in advanced STEM.
Then there is the kid that loves rockets, but does not want to pay $90,000 to become a Marxist.
What does he do? He goes to welding school and learns how to be the best welder.
What does that get him? A very high paying welding job in Boca Chic working for SpaceX.
If the reason they are skipping college is to go into the trades, that’s a good thing. Those currently in the trades are aging out - for every 5 that retire, they are being replaced by 1 (Mike Rowe numbers).
Still need STEM college graduates, but many kids go to college & come out unable to earn a living. If they don’t mind working & getting their hands dirty, there are good-paying jobs available.
“They are supposedly trying the “asexual reproduction” route (sperm banks, frozen eggs, etc.)”
I would like to see a change in how this process works. Right now, they scan through catalogs and pick a perfect donor with all the right attributes. I say NO. This smacks of eugenics. Each donation goes into a queue, and if you want one, you get the next one in line regardless of who squeezed it out. We are all equal in our woke society, right?
“And often the same reasons in reverse that men are not inclined to go into nursing.”
TPTB do not want men in nursing. If they did, they would not call it nursing.
College isn’t what it used to be. And especially if you’re a white male. You will be put down and ridiculed relentlessly for the sole crime of existing.
Learn a useful trade - and overcharge your overeducated - but stupid - customers, or at least the ones that look down on you.
I have my Master’s degree and taught alongside colleagues with PhDs for 8 years. Those were some of the most brain-dead individuals I have ever worked with. They had a lot of book knowledge, but zero common sense and people skills.
My son graduated high school with honors and scored top percentile in the nation on standardized testing. He applied to a few colleges and got accepted at every one, but didn’t go.
At 29, his trade not only has him managing his own crew (also smart, definitely not “links”), but he does job costing, budgeting, planning and much more. He loves his job. Very few of his peers who went to college are working jobs that they love and none get the month of PTO he gets yearly. He has a better income than any of them.
And, yes, his trade has him working for commercial customers in air conditioned environments. Some of his clients have designated office space for him.
It’s funny you should mention welding, he started there as well. He hated it and kept pursuing different trades until he found his niche.
I have read your past posts, and I can tell you that at age 29, my son has much better written communication skills than you. But keep beating that drum that tradesmen are dumb, lol.
Both of my sons went to trade schools.
Best money I’ve ever spent!
Well isn’t your boy such a hero....
