If you charter a semi to haul a load for you and that truck hits a bridge abutment and it collapses, are you responsible for the damages? My guess is that the driver and the owners of the trucking company would be responsible,

Maersk owns and operates 740 ships of all types. If they have more containers to haul, then capacity to haul them, they will charter other ship. This why Dali was carrying Maersk cargo.
It is not routine for Maersk to charter the competitions ships.

Typical government where common sense is the last thing to be used. I’m guessing they’ll set up some sort of investigative commission made up of culturally diverse individuals with no knowledge of maritime laws, harbor ingress/egress shipping protocols or could even point out a ship.

They’ll meet every 3rd Thursday of the month, request millions in funding, hold conventions in Europe and request more time to verify the obvious and finally release a report that comes to no conclusion and blames Trump.

the close-up photos of the Dali show the port anchor was dropped. The starboard anchor is still hawsed.

I’m not surprised. They’re going to go into maintenance contracts, providers, and schedules and who did what and when. I’m certain the “maintenance” aspect will be the bottle neck. Lost of red tape because no one wants to take responsibility.

“I’m sorry. Of course there is no way this was an accident. The pilot was obviously drunk, the captain corrupt and the ship electrician was paid off by the Chinese.”

Take your tin foil hat off and you might have a more knowledgeable response, minus your pure speculations.

Shipped was supposedly repaired in dock and there was apparently no sea trial to see if it was fixed, that’s the problem.

I find it strange and suspicious how none of the crew members have been named, much less interviewed.

Or the crew that supposedly worked on the vessel in port.

>>>Yes, 1Old Pro, had not factored in the crew who had “supposedly” worked on the ship (which IMO should not have been permitted to sail what with the mechanical problems that were still undergoing maintenance.

Finally, the only public interviews conducted by the local news channels have been with family and friends of the construction workers who were killed.

Here’s a ship’s chief engineer giving an overview of the ships steering system. Dali size containership steering system. How it’s designed to not hit Francis Scott key bridge

Yes, and noticeably produced as a pro immigration piece.

Given our earlier conc=versation on this thread when you congratulated me for not joining the conspiracy crowd and making sense, I didn’t think the /s to be necessary.

Plus, it is April Fools Day.

Yeah, I saw that one too. Good info.!

Rewiring these ships to provide secure data to some sort of greater capability VDR would be both expensive and likely would take years to accomplish. But local sensor groups and recording could make a lot of sense. WiFi - well, maybe, but that makes security tougher. Keeping it local and hardwired makes the most sense to me.

He was saying it took 20 seconds for his Emergency diesel generator to kick in .

Not sure what Dali was set to but just on the surface , I’m leaning towards Dali’s Emergency diesel generators may not have successfully lit off. Pure guess on my part.

The engineer said he tests his setup every month runs it for a couple of hours, has its own self contained fuel tank .

Perhaps the maintenance logs will be telling.
