This is an article by a former Royal Navy officer giving his perspective on the tragic collision between the ship Dali and the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Plenty went wrong that had nothing to do with accident.
First, I doubt the bridge was built, inspected, or maintained correctly. Baltimore is one of the most corrupt cities in the nation. Of course, so are most democrat hell holes.
They did not installed large concrete islands, called dolphins, around each of the bridge’s piers to absorb unwanted impact and redirect errant ships back into the channel. This could not happen to the new Sunshine Skyway bridge now.
Every bridge that deals with these large cargo ships should now have this protection after what happened in 1980s and now.
That said, follow the money and you will find out way such a poorly designed, unmaintained, and unprotected bridge existed.
It’s rather metaphorical that said bridge is broken.

The damage control - i.e., gaslighting, from all quarters - is a tell IMHO.
If a person/vehicle damages public property the Fed/State/county/city/Port will make repairs to while seeking compensation from the party thst caused the damage.
Did you know that if you wreck your car into a guardrail, streetlight, or road signs, that you are financially responsible to pay for that damage and those things require immediate repairs to prevent another accident from happening because they were installed for safety purposes. If the government had to wait to get paid, they could become liable due to neglect?
Youd think the Brits were occupied enough protecting pedo royals and killing the good ones to keep them quiet.

The Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed two of the men were from Guatemala, according to a Tuesday evening news release. The men are in their 30s and 40s and have spouses and children.
Maryland State Police identified two men found in a red pickup truck as Dorlian Cabrera and Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes.
CBS News spoke with a family member who said Cabrera was among the group of workers presumed dead
Honduras' Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Antonio García told The Associated Press a Honduran citizen, Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, was missing. García said he'd been in contact with Suazo's family.
The Mexican Embassy in Washington said there were also Mexicans among the six.
"They are all hard-working, humble men," the Banner was told by an employee at the company.

My bass boat is tricky to handle in high winds and things can go horribly wrong because the wife has a hard time holding the dock line, a beer can tip over, worm can tip, bait wells can over spill so I can see where a 1000’ ship that loses power and steering could have some issues.
I mean the similarities with the problems with my bass boat and a 1000’ ship are just uncanny.

Good article. This answered my question about tugs. An earlier article says the captain did ask for tugs when the trouble started,but this author said the tugs were too slow to catch up. I didn’t know they were that slow.

It was a well written and well reasoned article written by someone who has walked the walk. It was refreshing to read about something technical and demanding that was not “edited” by a low IQ journalist who struggled to understand third grade science.

Yep things happen, just interesting that like those two aircraft hitting the trade towers were accidentally flown into them….. just saying that it’s amazing that the most damage the ship could have done, it did…… accidentally, of course.

Usually by the ship owners. But that will have to wait until all the insurance lawsuits are settled. Some time 2-5 years later. Add another 2 years to remove the wreckage, and another 2-3 years to design and build a new bridge.
Best guess minimum would be 6 years or 2030 until harbor is open for business and the bridge for traffic.
