This is just sickening.
I lived in Clearwater when the Sunshine Skyway got hit. It was awful- only drove over it once when it was partially closed- never again. Scared me to pieces.
Prayers for those who perished in Baltimore.
Iron Mike was hacked
At the beginning of the clip, the ship had already hit the bridge and was on fire. They were recording the burning ship.
One look at those piers and it is immediately obvious that this was the proverbial accident waiting to happen.
sure looks like it from the track
Even if the ship lost stearage and/or all control of the rudder and was heading for the bridge support the CO/pilot could always drop anchor and stop fwd motion. Did that happen? I don’t think so...
No injuries among ship crew, company says Shipping company Synergy Marine Group confirms that its Singapore-flagged container ship 'Dali' has collided with a pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.
"Whilst the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined, the 'Dali' has now mobilised its Qualified Individual Incident response service," it says.
All crew members, including the two pilots who were aboard, have been accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries, it adds.
Local stations have probably eliminated their overnight studio personnel as a cost-cutting measure. There’s nobody in the building except a security guard.
There’s no doubt about it being deliberate.
Funny how seamanship 101 says if steerage is lost and the ship is making way ( heading for a bridge!!! ) DROP THE ANCHOR!!!!
Mine to. That was a direct hit on the structural support
Soft target
“ Looks like sabotage/terrorism to me. (With a pinpoint hit.)”

Yep, it wasn’t a minor pile cap or pier “scrape” accident, it was dead oh into the pier.
the freighters gross tonnage was listed at 95k tons. to put that into perspective that is heavier then a battleship. you are not stopping 95 thousand tons.
the .gov will never report it as terrorism, even if it was....
especially in an election year
My first thought was the Skyway Bridge collapse, when the weather was a major factor. That old Skyway bridge was definitely on the creepy side. After the collapse, when both northbound and southbound traffic shared the surviving span with a prime view of the destroyed span...the creepy factor was much stronger.
Baltimore City Fire spokesman Kevin Cartwright has confirmed At least seven vehicles, including at least one tractor-trailer-sized vehicle, have collapsed into the water
Driven that bridge many times.
Here’s what the bridge was like to drive over before the collapse

The ship lost power at 1:24:32 for 59secs causing drift, ....then again at 1:26:36 for 33secs, .....impact at 1:28:43. ......They didn’t have enough time to adjust it’s course and the ship’s side hit the supports.
