Even if the ship lost stearage and/or all control of the rudder and was heading for the bridge support the CO/pilot could always drop anchor and stop fwd motion. Did that happen? I don’t think so...

I don’t think so...Unless you have worked on a ship you do not understand how much time it takes to drop emergency anchor.
