You may have noticed that Easter eggs are more expensive this year.
But did you know that climate change is one of the reasons?
Most chocolate is made from cocoa grown in West Africa, but a humid heatwave has blasted the crops and massively cut yields.
Experts say that human-induced climate change has made the extreme heat 10 times more likely.
Which? found some popular eggs have risen in price by 50% or more.
The shortage of cocoa resulting from the heatwave has seen prices soar to almost $8,500 (£6,700) a tonne this week.
Cocoa trees are particularly vulnerable to changes in the climate. They only grow in a narrow band of about 20 degrees latitude around the Equator.
Amber Sawyer, an analyst at the climate think-tank the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, said wealthy countries like the UK can provide financial and technical support to developing countries to help their farmers better cope with extreme weather.
But she warned that, "as climate change worsens, more support will undoubtedly be needed to protect their livelihoods and keep the flow of cocoa beans coming into the UK."

Not just inflation, but worldwide avian diseases are common, most countries have rules on confinement of animals that increases costs, energy for the facilities has risen, trucking costs have risen, to name just a few factors.
Climate Change as in Biden driving energy costs through the ceiling with their war on oil/coal.
Ah, the Beeb.
The UK has a Deep State, too.
And the Beeb is its mouthpiece.
What’s hittig the crops is socialism and climate ideology.
No, it's not "climate change", it's Joe Biden and other leftists.
Debasement of fiat currency is caused by government not climate.
Since climate change is a scam, I am guessing it has nothing to do with the price of eggs.
The UK has a tradition of chocolate easter eggs. From the small, like a Cadbury’s Cream Egg, to bigger chocolate eggs that are hollow with treats inside. They don’t paint normal eggs like we do here.
Does that mean we can start growing chocolate in North Dakota? Great idea - as long as you don’t have to hire illegal aliens to harvest it.
BBC must not have gotten the fax. It’s no longer fashionable to call it “climate change” - it’s now to be referred to as “climate crisis”
The exclamation point at the end is optional.
...and meat-eaters.
BS.
Can we blame Brandin for this?
Lol
Thanks to Obozo/Biden, and the Marxist Dems, America has 20 million more mouths to feed. Just wait till the demand supersedes the supply. It will be like Germany in the 30’s.

$1 in 2020 is now(2024) only worth .80 cents. An item now costs $1.20. A $1000 item in 2020 now costs $1200.
Bidenomics in action.
$1 worth of goods in 1880 by 1960 cost $2. That is double in 80 years.
Since 1960, $2 worth of goods then now cost $21. That is 948.40% in 60 years.
Doh! Use M&Ms instead. They melt in your mouth but not in your hand.
Cocoa farming is bad for the environment, so this should be considered a good thing.
Climate Change sure has lowered the yield on our "Egg Farm".
"Article is about cocoa beans..."
Thank you "goodnesswins" for posting that.
This is a continuing "Lie", told in this post yesterday:
Chocolate Prices Are Skyrocketing — and it Has Very Little to Do With Inflation".
It has to do with "Corruption" in Africa. The farmers and laborers don't earn enough to "live on", in a third world country; so why work?
Customs intercepts smuggled cocoa beans.
Ghana News Agency
At the same time cocoa beans are selling at the "highest price in history"; farmers and laborers have to smuggle beans to get a fair price.
Beans smuggled and sold elsewhere are considered "massively cut yields", because they weren't sold to "Climate Change Middleman".
