The tip that got him caught came from a clerk at a ABQ convenience store. About 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning he came in to buy cigarettes. As an ID is required for purchase in NM, Smith gave the clerk his actual ID with his picture on it! After purchasing the cigarettes and leaving, the clerk called the Sheriff's department. He was located on foot and a shootout occurred. It is not yet known how he got from Tucumcari to ABQ, a distance about 175 miles. The link to the clerks story is attached.

Bernalillo County deputies arrested Jaremy Smith Sunday morning in Albuquerque after a shootout in a neighborhood.

I guess the concept of keeping a low profile when you're on the lam was too much for him to handle.

He wasn’t shot in the right place often enough.

Send him to SC. New Mexico communist demonrats ended the death penalty. The SC murder was him committing a robbery also when he took her car. Chances aren’t good, but at least in SC there is a chance of death. None for Fed charges. None in NM.

And if SC drops the ball on death, then send him to NM for trial and a sequential sentence.
