When Colorado Republican Representative Ken Buck abruptly resigned from the House last week, he created more than a little turmoil. The GOP's nine-seat majority (222 R - 213 D) was always tenuous. Since then, the margin of control has been reduced by the expulsion of George Santos (NY-03) and the resignation of former Speaker Kevin McCarty (CA-20). When Ohio Republican Bill Johnson (OH-06) submitted his resignation effective January 21, the GOP majority dropped to 219-213. Ken Buck's resignation makes matters worse. Losing two votes means Republicans cede control to a Democrat Caucus moving in lockstep.
On his way out, Buck dropped an ominous statement. When asked if he was catching crap from colleagues over his no-notice resignation — neither Speaker Johnson nor Majority Leader Scalise was told in advance —he said, "I think it's the next three people that leave that they're going to be worried about."
There is no more information about who those three might be, but a safe bet is that they would come from the members who have announced their retirement.
Debbie Lesko (AZ-08) Victoria Spartz (IN-05) Brad Wenstrup (OH-02) Kay Granger (TX-12) Michael Burgess (TX-26) If those resignations occur before the June special elections, which will fill most of the absences, it will result in a House with an even split and perhaps a short-term replacement of Johnson by Hakeem Jeffries.
While this Congress will probably not surpass the record of 16 who resigned in the 115th Congress (2017-2018), something is definitely wrong.

How would Johnson vacating the chair help matters?
I have an idea:
BE CONSERVATIVE!
Will solve your problems. And quit whining while you’re at it.
They (RINO's) KNOW that the Democrat Marxists are actively DESTROYING this country, so they decide to help them. Traitors.
It’s all about POWER and $$$.
They will be paid off to leave or will be blackmailed into doing so.
If those disgusting RINO traitors stay... Bet they would just vote for Uniparty (U) plank anyway. Lettem go.
I guess they’re waiting till their lifetime full pay & benefits retirement package is full vested before they pull the plug
We will end up with jefferies even before January at the rate the idiotic house is going.
Good thing the GOP demonstrated their morality and bounced Santos.
I think you meant: take their payoff and go home. They just passed another CR stuffed with earmark pork.

It wouldn’t, unless you want democrats in control of the House before November.
Which would ALMOST guarantee, that they’d control it after the election.
This is overhyped. Special elections will happen to replace these departures before Nov, maybe as soon as June. These are all safe seats and the candidates that will take those seats are generally MAGA.
Boebert was already going to primary Buck, and win. He’s trying to backstab on his way out.
Never forget, this is a fringe party. Like the Democrats. Independents will soon start running for these seats.
Chip Roy is the biggest phony piece of crap Bushie stooge in Congress....a bad soap opera actor
Dear RINOs. Play stupid games…win stupid prizes
Last gasp of GOPe.
D+35. Could go higher.
I've always said that if a Republican Congressman isn't a Rino already when elected, that if they stay in Washington long enough, they will become a Rino.
The GOP House has proven it is incapable of governing.
Most of the Republicans leaving the house are moderates or RINOs. Hopefully, when all the dust settles, the House will be more conservative and gain seats in the near future.
I’m thinking blackmail too. Leaving makes no sense. What makes sense and is the honorable thing to do, is simply to announce that he/she will not be seeking reelection and finish the term.
