Behind a West Loop migrant shelter, dozens of cars sit without license plates.
Several of their owners stand nearby, acknowledging they lack licenses to drive them.
But they increasingly have been driving, according to a Chicago Tribune analysis of police data that suggests sharp rises in arrests among migrants for breaking traffic laws. The analysis found many are now being detained in Chicago each week for driving- or vehicle-related infractions, roughly at five times the rate from last summer.
“Start where you are. Do what you can. Use what you have,” said Jose Fernandez, 30, from Trujillo, Venezuela.
It’s difficult to know for sure how many migrants are charged or ticketed because police don’t keep precise data on when they arrest asylum-seekers. But what is often available in arrest data — the arrestees’ country of birth — suggests that driving- and vehicle-related offenses have become the primary reason migrants end up being detained by officers.
The Tribune focused on arrestees born in Venezuela because census figures show few native Venezuelans lived in Chicago before Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began busing migrants north 18 months ago, and city officials say that Venezuelans make up the majority of the more than 37,000 migrants who’ve arrived since.

Chicago has lotsa public transportation. They aren’t buying cars to go to work and back.
This is just making the argument they should be given id. As long as it says non citizen across the front, I am cool with that. Voting is a citizen right. Non citizens are not protected by the constitution.
No, it’s not alright, but I understand that it’s hard to control them. The first thing that has to be done is to control the border. Maybe even before that is to arrest Joe Biden and others for not doing their part in upholding the Constitution as part of their oath of office. Why is this not being done? We have to start somewhere & this would seem to be the place to start.

An American if pulled over by law enforcement is subject to arrest / towing of vehicle / substantial fines and then the cost of probation for a year or more . All of this from having no/suspended license , no insurance/unregistered. Then after you get out of court after arraignment your stranded and you have probably lost your job....(don’t ask me how I know) Deport every single one these souls back to whence they came. If they don’t we are headed for anarchy and survival of the fittest. A nation of laws not men.
A friend on a walk stopped to talk to what appeared to be a street vendor. The vendor was a Mexican and he always had four or five used cars sitting out front with no signage. The friend wanted to know if one of the cars was for sale, as they seldom sat there long. The guy kept saying you no want this car. A stack of valid, in date, license plates lay nearby.
Conclusion, the cars were either stolen or could not be legally licensed. (If you don’t have a signed title in Florida, you can’t license the car. Period.) But if you’ve paid cash and you buy a plate with a valid sticker, you can pretty much drive it anywhere. Get in an accident? Drive or walk away.
It’s hard to believe the authorities don’t know about this trade. I see these guys pop up here and there and sometimes they just move on to some other place. The only people you ever see there are foreigners. As someone pointed out regarding illegals, the law and ordinances are only enforced against the white middle class. A deputy once told me, “I don’t stop a car full of blacks or illegals unless I have to. I’m required to run wants and warrants and sure as hell, one of them will pop up and it takes up the rest of the day. I stop old white people as it’s a quick stop, I write the ticket and I’m on my way.”

By the time I was old enough to vote (the Obama years), I assumed we were headed for anarchy and survival of the fittest.
Be careful. If one of them hits your car, it is you who will pay. Your insurance company will fix your car and raise your rates.
The illegal will get back in the car and be free to cause more accidents.
