Doomsday prepping was once a concept people believed was reserved for conspiracy theorists and paranoid uncles, but fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic is leading more and more Americans to plan ahead in the event of a future catastrophe.
Amid a recovering supply chain, two brewing conflicts involving nuclear powers, hackers bent on compromising electric infrastructure, the possibility of solar flares and concerns about engineered bioweapons, Nelson said it is not unrealistic to look at the world today and say: How prepared am I to take care of my family?”
“Americans have this Armageddon-type thing where they think that there’s a secret space shuttle waiting to go get that meteor. You know, there’s always an answer somewhere. Somebody’s hidden something underground. And we’re good, right? We like to believe that our big government has got a solution for everything.”
But the truth, according to Nelson, is that while there are plans, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for any one-size problem, and the government cannot reasonably have a plan that accounts for everything.
Nelson calculated that if a freezer goes out, people will only have that food for three days. If the power goes out, Americans are now reduced to five days of food in their homes. A local suburban or urban area will also have about two weeks of food and has generators if the power goes out, but when people are dependent on storefronts, they will quickly be emptied out.
“In the event of even a temporary supply chain collapse, most homes are within two weeks of being entirely dependent on handouts from a government entity or non-government organization,” Nelson said.
“Anybody who doesn’t have 3 to 6 months of basic staples and food within your home, and the ability to grow a garden. Then what’s your plan? I mean,

Always amused by how people think prepper thoughts in such an absurdly mild way.
People advise others to prepare for what is likely, like the horrors of 48 hours of power outtage from some natural disaster like hurricane or earthquake.
This is not prepping. This is silliness. You’re preparing not to survive, but to maintain maximum comfort. This is not a lot different from buying a fan and enduring the horrors of standing up and turning it on.
Then there are the guys saying look, only a week or two is worst case. Deal with that by enduring the horrors of going to get your car keys and driving somewhere that Arbys is still making food.
This is prepping for things that don’t require prepping. It’s just stupid.
There are lots of prepper websites and they tend to be run by guys who 30 years ago got 6 weeks of training as an Army Ranger and in those 6 weeks there were 2 hours of talk about living off the land. This was 30 years and 30 pounds ago. This is not a person to listen to.
Item 1: about 0.1% of the population can survive 6 months in place. The water is going to disappear from the pipes. Start your thinking from that point in scenario. Water disappears from pipes and you need 6 months of it.
Item 2: Because of Item 1, have a destination. If you have a plan and a destination in mind, you will be ahead of 99% of the population.
Item 3: Because of Items 1 and 2, there is no point storing food where you are.
Item 4: If power is out for a long time, you can’t pump gasoline into your car. Have a plan.
That’s about the gist of it. If you have the means to take food from others, you will - eventually.
Might be convenient, but there are a lot of ways to move water without electricity...
Bluetti solar generator, cost a bit, but if you get the big batteries, more then one it could solve most of your problems. Cost me 5000 $ a year ago. Solar charging panel was separate at the time. Good luck.
I’ll add Cigarettes, plenty of OTC medications and precious metals.
Do you think the government would have plans for such a devastating event that it, being the government, would cease to have any power to control the populous? Do you think that the government would publicize such things that would certainly heighten the anxiety of their servants? I think no.
An emp attack in concert with nuking cities and other strategic locations in our country would bring things to a complete halt. Those officials and the elite will be well taken care of in our tunnel systems. The rest of the population would be on their own.
My wife works in supply chain and they have a quarterly sale for the employees. $15 dollars a box and she always gets a couple banana boxes full of coffee. Store it properly and it lasts a long time. I’ve got over 40 pounds now and will be getting more next Friday.
Thank you for that! Sounds like a monster!
In your opinion, is it easy to rig into a home electrical system?
Tobacco can be grown at home if you are south of the Mason-Dixon line.
And there will be markets that spring up quite quickly.
That's the best case.
Worst case is he's expecting here to be like Alaska, abruptly. Think mammoths frozen with marigolds in their mouths and stomachs.
Tea can be grown if you are in South Carolina and points south.
Coffee and chocolate are nearly impossible without being in Hawaii.
Spices are nice but there are any number of spices that grow all over the place that we are not using because the stuff that comes from the tropics are cheaper and easier.
Spice bush, carnations, hot peppers, sumac, juniper berries, ajwain, Fenugreek, garlic are all things that can be used to flavor food.
You read too many doomer sites.
Like I said, you are describing a post-apocalyptic world, a movie fantasy.
Leep is correct, having goodies like sugar, tobacco, and booze (and instant coffee) is wise because even casual campers know how quickly cravings start on a camping trip, much less after weeks or a month or so, while most people won’t be desperate for salt after a few weeks or a month many will be craving sweets and booze and coffee almost immediately along with many other things of course.
Apparently, the Covid Jabs & Boosters haven’t murdered and maimed enough of We The People yet.
What’s next? Weather manipulation with earthquakes, floods Coast to Coast, hurricanes and tornadoes, starvation due to their burning down food processing plants nationwide, chemtrails dropping poison, DEWs, and the Cabal’s list goes on.

I would add a bit of salt and some 22 LR shells.
I have grown tobacco pretty plant, never took to smoking or chewing stage. Seeds are very small. If you can get the seedling started (warm climate) then you are good to go.
My grandmother grew her personal tobacco in California, salt and ammunition are good trade items but I think the vices of coffee, booze, and sweeteners are more immediately useful, especially in the more realistic emergencies of weeks to months.
Being able to invite your jonesing neighbors over for a cup of sweet coffee or a few fingers of booze can be really good for communication, relationship building, and information gathering.
“If you can’t defend it,
you don’t own it.”
Which is one reason why the Marxists want to disarm us. Only they are worthy of ‘owning’ anything, in their warped little minds. They are working towards making it difficult, if not impossible, for us to defend anything.

You have too vivid an imagination.
