Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel waited to the very end of the Oscars broadcast on Sunday to take aim at former President Donald Trump and the MAGA base.
“Isn’t it past your jail time?” Kimmel said, sending the celebrity audience into paroxysms of maniacal laughter and enthusiastic applause.
Just before the final award of the evening, Jimmy Kimmel read aloud a Truth Social post that Trump published during the broadcast in which the former president mocked Kimmel’s hosting abilities while also noteing the Oscars’ poor ratings in recent years.
“Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars,” Trump wrote, suggesting ABC replace Kimmel with Good Morning, America co-anchor George Stephanopoulos.
Trump called Sunday’s Oscars “a really bad politically correct show.” He also called on the Academy to give Oscars based on merit. “Maybe that way their audience and TV ratings will come back from the depths.”

I don’t know that Ricky Gervais is particularly conservative but he would be a great Oscars’ host because you don’t know what he’s going to say. It’ll never happen, he’s too good at mocking elite pretentiousness.

I grew up watching Bob Hope hosting the Oscars. I don’t think I’ve watched them in 20+ years. Like news programming, they’ve become very political and predictable, and not worth watching.
Won’t be watching Barbie, but I did recently watch “Oppenheimer” on my streaming service. I like actor Cillian Murphy who previously starred in “Peaky Blinders.” Glad to see he won best actor instead of some diversity actor who didn’t deserve it.

Hollywood denigrates Trump every time they get the chance, so why shouldn't Trump counter-punch? I voted for Trump twice because he hammers the opposition, when no previous GOP candidate had the balls to. I'll vote a third time for Trump, the good Lord willing, and will never again vote for another nominated Rino pussy. I'd rather sit home on Election Day than be a part of that.
There's too many of those in the Senate already, and it's because people will vote for a POS Rino just to keep the seat Republican. All they are doing is perpetuating the problem. I'll never hold my nose and vote for a POS GOP candidate ever again.

After a low in 2021 of 10MM views, the Oscars have recovered somewhat to be back up to 18MM views last year. Their all time high was in 1999 of 55MM views. It was the year Titanic won Best Picture.
As a comparison the last two Super Bowls got between 115MM and 123MM views. The 1969 Moon landing is still the largest ever between 125-150MM views. It was on every network.
The MASH finale got 105MM views. The single highest rated TV episode of all time.
Keep in mind though that The Joe Rogan Podcast routinely gets between 9MM-114MM views depending on the episodes.
I watched a movie on Netflix last night from 2015 called “The Gift”. It was actually very well written and acted. It got a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score.
IMHO, the last really good movie that won for Best Picture was in 2013 for 12 Years a Slave. The highest rated movie ever according to IMBd was 1972’s The Godfather with a 9.2.
And we know that Carrie had the last ‘laugh.’
