The number of deaths related to excessive alcohol surged amid the stress and isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual average number of deaths stemming from alcohol use jumped 29%, to 178,000 from 138,000, between 2016-2017 and 2020-2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed last month.
At the height of the coronavirus pandemic, that was about 488 deaths per day, the data showed.
Two-thirds of those fatalities were from long-term conditions such as liver disease and other complications from long-term alcohol abuse.

Sweden was right.
2020.. one of the worst years of my life, other than my only son being conceived (thanks to quarantine and champagne!).
Fauxi had to kill the village to save it.
IOW, CONvid causes over drinking so get your shot/booster to prevent drinking. ๐ณ

There was also the problem of people not going to the doctor. A lot of treatable diseases were left to fester.
A friend who is an eye doctor almost went out of business, people just went blind.
I work for a company that helps cure deafness. Our sales were cut in half. I asked the marketing director if people were just going deaf. He said yes.
Now how many people died because a cancer diagnosis was missed, blood pressure not treated, kidney disease not detected, etc?
How does one defend the lockdowns? Let us see you try clot shot warrior.
Two of my friends relapsed and died.
I won’t forget that.
I’m sorry ๐
Thank you.
That is a wonderful point.
Sweden is great for comparison. They didnt lock down. The US, Canada and the rest of Europe did.
Sweden, the US the Europe are all leftist bastions. So both libersals and conservatives can examine their results generally free of bias and agendas.
And the results in Sweden show that their record in contrlling covid more or less matched the other countries.
That shows that all the tyrannny and lockdowns coming from Dr Anthony Fauci and our CDC did little good in performing their mission, which is to prevent and control disease, so as to minimize the loss of human life.
Guarantee a number of those deaths wound up in the died OF covid data.
Probably less excess deaths overall in Sweden because by large, life went as normal. While in UK and US, our lives were severely disrupted.
A small price to pay for safety. ๐คก

I’ve never defended the lockdowns. I posted about how ludicrous they were. FWIW, I never defended masking either. It’s in my posting history if you doubt that.
I see you’re still resorting to ad hominem name calling instead of trying to make a coherent argument.

Name one.
I know my alcohol i take went up during the lockdown years. Enough to contribute (along with other factors) to significant weight gain.
But I donโt blame the lockdowns for it, unlike my lib friends who also drank more. I take personal responsibility for an action that was 100% in my control.
Government will just ad those numbers to covid related deaths.
Uh, seems this was part of the plan. Businesses were closed. Gyms were closed. Houses of worship were closed. Even parks and beaches were closed. But liquor stores and weed shops were allowed to stay open.
