No…they start learning to read in second grade. They learn letters in K and 1st. Their brains cannot comprehend the coding involved with actual reading. They can parrot…but that is not reading.

I read in first grade in 1967. All three of my children were READING in kindergarten. Their brains absolutely could comprehend that they were reading. It's not that hard.
