I am writing as a Christian pastor — a Baptist, no less — serving churches for the past 52 years. Of course, I favor Christianity. And in my ministry, I invite persons to consider faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, it may seem surprising that I am a leader of an effort in Kansas City during this election year to resist White Christian nationalism. White Christian nationalism does not invite people into faith, but rather seeks to dominate, control and coerce not only individuals, but society.

I couldn’t access the article, but from what I have read other places, they mean people who believe our fundamental rights are ours because our Creator, not the state, endowed us with them. I guess Thomas Jefferson and all the guys who signed off on that document in 1776 would get their boogieman treatment too. More insidiously, they are anti-Christian and anti-Christ, probably because of some moral positions traditional Christians espouse. I am often stunned at the amount of that sentiment among Americans these days.

‘white’ was the word I saw first. I don’t know what,’nationalist’ has to do with claiming to know and serve God. And I don’t know that being white has anything to do with knowing and serving God.

The original “Appeal to Heaven” flag with tree was an idea by one of Washington’s aids. You can find the original letter. The tree was symbolic as the king owned every tree in America by right especially the large straight ones to build masts on his ships. The flag was flown on the continental naval ships in defiance of the British navy. The appeal to heaven phrase is from John Locke who used the phrase as a last resort when rational appeals to the king go unheeded. after that you take up arms. It is actually a call to peaceful arbitration.
