How does it feel to be wrong about the biggest NATO failure ever?

Nothing less than total surrender

“In 1991, curiously enough, after the Soviet debacle in Afghanistan, Russians under Michael Gorbachev supported Bush the Elder’s western coalition in Gulf War I.”

You believe that? I sure as hell don’t!

Gorbachev’s Soviet Union was broke. It was fiscally defeated. It was simply easier to proclaim Perestroika than admit defeat.

The Russian diplomats and military advisers were shuttling weekly to Baghdad to give advice and intel for maximizing Coalition casualties. Even tho the Iraqi air force and air defense was never developed to oppose Western air power they knew enough about it and its systems to significantly oppose it and reduce its effects.

The Russians realized there were two sides in the war and played both to obtain their goals. Minimize Iraqi destruction and maximize coalition casualties. WhTF do you think gave the Iraqis satellite-based targeting solutions for their Scuds? You think those were INS-based range and bearing shots? And I KNOW KGB provided all kinds of support from 2003 onwards. Even bumped into one of their 3-man teams in BIAP heading south to Basrah weeks before the EFPs started being used there.

No, Russians/KGB were deep and dirty in basically all Iraq operations since the 1970s including the Iran war (atheist KGB protege vs. deist Khomeini.

Bury us in a wall of words

Not all #Ukranians are willing to be led away to their ☠️ by #Mobilization squads.

Russkiy Mirovich: "How does it feel to be wrong about the biggest NATO failure ever?

Referring to what, exactly? Avdiivka?

Thanks for educating me, I should have said something like "Gorbachev didn't publicly oppose Gulf War I", leaving room for your suggestions that the Old Soviet KGB was still doing its dirty-work behind the scenes, as always.

What's curious to me is that our pro-Russian propaganda repeaters here have also adopted the stance that:

Thus, aligning their views with the public stances of Gorbachev and Putin, as opposed to alleged American "neo-cons".
All of this alleged NATO bad behavior is then claimed to morally & legally justify, or at least "normalize" & enable, Vlad the Invader's "special military operations" in Ukraine.

Such arguments are given weight by Donald Trump's political opposition to the Bushes and his strategic dislike of "war mongers", "nation building" and "globalists", though Trump himself does not use the term "neo-conservatives".
I suppose he still wants their votes and so doesn't mock them as such directly.

Unlike our pro-Russian repeaters here who have no concerns for anything except shutting down American support for Russkiy Mir's victims.

Russkiy Mirovich: "Not all #Ukranians are willing to be led away to their ☠️ by #Mobilization squads."

Nor have all Russians been so willing to join Vlad the Invader's Meat Grinder battalions.

What's interesting is that Wikipedia tells us Ukraine's armed forces have recently been increased to match those of Russia, meaning 1,000,000 active duty and 2,000,000 reserves, astonishing in a country of Ukraine's maybe 25,000,000 military age population.

Wiki also shows Ukraine's military spending as 18% of GDP, compared to Russia's 4% and the USA's 3%.
I suspect those numbers for Ukraine and Russia are actually much higher, with Ukraine nearing 40% of GDP and Russia coming up on 20%, which still gives Russia a huge advantage if not offset by Western aid to Ukraine.
The reasons for Ukraine begin with their being so outnumbered they must totally organize and mobilize for war to have any hope of staving off defeat.

That is what's reflected in their armed forces numbers recently matching Russia's.
So, it will obviously be quite difficult, and not every Ukrainian will want to do what they must.

When the US had a major draft, for example in WWII, there was also the need for enforcement and around 5,000 Americans were jailed during WWII, for draft dodging offenses.

Russian FSB agent called in from the cold, takes a more direct route back to Moscow, lives to tell and laugh about his story.

Alternate history question
Those who oppose aid to Ukraine most often site “America first”, debt, homeless veterans, and border invasion

Let’s say US never sent aid to Ukraine, would there be any significant change in any of those problems?

Homeless veterans existed before Russian invasion, border has been a disaster for decades, 34 trillion debt didn’t just happen as a result of aiding Ukraine.

Even if you put a number of 200 billion figure on aid to Ukraine would represent .0058 of the debt(a number or value i dispute, but put in for sake of argument), a number that is still significant, but dwarfed by other govt spending from both dims and repubes.

Let’s go one step further, say Putin had never invaded would any of the problems you and others often mention be different today?

Here in the US I would argue no, in Europe I would say yes
