Donald Trump said Thursday during a visit to the Texas-Mexico border that Gov. Greg Abbott is “absolutely” on his short list of potential vice presidential candidates for his 2024 run.
During a joint interview with Abbott on Fox News, the former president was asked by host Sean Hannity whether Abbott was under consideration for the position. Trump responded that Abbott is “a spectacular man” and he was honored when Abbott endorsed him for president last year.
“And he’s done a great job,” Trump said. “Yeah, certainly he would be somebody that I would very much consider.”
“So he’s on the list?” Hannity said.
“Absolutely, he is,” Trump replied, as Abbott looked on.

On Friday, Abbott downplayed his interest in such a role at a press conference.
“Obviously it’s very nice of him to say, but I think you all know that my focus is entirely on the state of Texas,” he said. “As you know, I’m working right now on the midterm election process. I’ve already talked about that I’ve announced that I’m running for reelection two years from now, and so my commitment is to Texas and I’m staying in Texas.”
Man would Paxton being AG cause heads to explode.
Be awesome. He could fix more than Trump in that role.
Dems are likely already working up impeachment documents.
Three problems right off the bat:
1) Greg Abbott is a career politician. We need non-politicians who will stop at nothing to enforce the Constitution and fix our country.
2) Why hasn’t Greg Abbott refused federal funding so Texas can be financially independent of the feds?
3) Greg Abbott’s wheelchair may limit his voting attraction.
Trump has already said he’s already decided on his VP (I think its Vivek).
You know he is just politicking right? 😉
He wouldn’t make it passed the democratic inquisition.
As you said, Paxton for AG.
Yes...Abbott is excellent. But the VP choice should attract voters that might otherwise go elsewhere. A very talented, accomplished, woman would be good. And someone from a swing state might be good.
Paxton is 61 years old. He’s needed in the senate. State politics is the minor leagues. As US atty. general there are plenty of others available. Take that Woo fella from Cal. Asian-play their game. At 61 years of age Paxton can serve 2 senate terms and not worry about getting fired or forced out.
From your lips to God's ears.

1. Is not an issue with the right person
2. Because he can’t reciprocally deny sending the taxes Texas collects to Washington.
3. I think it gives him a sympathy factor
I could live with that.
I vote for Cab.Sauvignon as VP, and M.Erlot as AG. I’ve got the bottles right here in front of me, and those names are right on them. I am not making this up.
Abbott took YEARS to make any effort to seal the border in Texas. A real leader would act quickly and decisively to protect the citizens. Paxton, yes. Abbott, nope.
Texas is to important for Abbott to leave.
Whoever it is has to be squeaky clean generations of family going back and then be able to withstand the public dragging through the mud framing threats to self spouse parents family. Kids.
Immediately
Not true, Dan Patrick is far more conservative than Abbott.
I gotta guy who’s got Cab. Sauvignon as VP, and M. Erlot as AG.
OK.
I think... Vivek...
