Trump moves to keep Stormy Daniels, Michael Cohen from testifying in DA Bragg case

Former President Donald Trump's legal team has sought to block testimony from porn star Stormy Daniels and his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, as part of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's case against him.

Bragg charged Trump in March of last year over a 2016 payment Cohen made to Daniels, alleging conspiracy and that he falsified records. Trump denies wrongdoing and contends the case is part of an ongoing political witch hunt against him. The trial is slated for March 25.

"Michael Cohen is a liar," Trump's legal team wrote, in reference to his testimony on New York Attorney General Letitia James's civil fraud trial against Trump.

"He recently committed perjury, on the stand and under oath, at a civil trial involving President Trump," they claimed, according to The Hill. "If his public statements are any indication, he plans to do so again at this criminal trial. The Court should preclude Cohen’s testimony in order to protect the integrity of this Court and the process of justice."

Another completely manufactured case - creating crimes so you prosecute a specific individual. Bragg should be disbarred for this along with Leticia James for the other one in New York.

It's time to end absolute immunity for prosecutors, which is a relatively recent doctrine. Conservatives object loudly about judges legislating from the bench, but when a prosecutor invites a judge to do just that and expand crimes beyond what the legislature intended too many want immunity for that. We need to be consistent: criminal laws are written by legislature, not prosecutors and judges.

"Story" was already spreading her whore stories before the 2020 election and Trump won by a landslide when you don't count the fraudulent "ballots" that showed up in the middle of the night in five swing states.

You are laboring under the delusion that we live in normal times with normal political currents.

The Republic is under "existential" threat (an admittedly overused term, but true nonetheless).

The vast majority of people know that.

The Democrat Bolsheviks have used sex smears so many times (the imaginary pee-pee tapes come to mind) that nobody is buying it or cares except for the weak-minded and weak-willed.

“ Why wouldn’t the left just do the same thing”

I believe they will. If this works I doubt we’ll see too many Republican/ Conservative candidates win any office in the future unless they are approved by the Left

“ You my friend are a “Never Trumper”

Not your friend and I did and will vote for a Trump, I’m just not blinded by blind optimism. The reality is that the left has fixed the legal system, no amount of voting is gonna fix it and I doubt there will be a massive conservative uprising.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

The Republic is under "existential" threat (an admittedly overused term, but true nonetheless).

Agree, just look at the progressive accomplishments of the current admin. Scary.

The vast majority of people know that.

I do not agree to this point. National elections can come down to a handful of votes in a handful of states. Might this be a good time to NOT have insulted and shamed so many influencers that could have been valuable allies?

Let's step back a bit. We are really on the same team, that of Conservatives in our great Country. I worry that Mister Trump, through his inability to act presidential and his proclivity to insult folks, making unneeded political foes, shrinks his base to an unwinnable level. The "hush money" history illustrates poor judgement and not a focus on family.

Many hereabouts just love Trump so much that they don't see his biggest weakness. Him. And I'll take no pleasure in being right when he loses in Nov. I'd rather much that he wins and succeeds.

So you want Trump to act like a conventional politician with his wetted finger to the wind?

That is the only way he could lose MAGA support.

Trump won twice specifically because he is not a conventional politician.

PS - TRUMP REALLY STEPPED IN IT THIS TIME! IT'S ALL OVER FOR HIM NOW! #945053245093824

I'm afraid that you overcount the Trump votes in the general.

But we'll leave it right there, with the thought I would be pleased if you were somehow correct.

An impressive turnout.

I wish it were sufficient to win the general election.

Saying “cult of personality” is using leftist rhetoric. The phrase applies accurately to Barack Obama. Now people who are looking to Trump right now who never did before are joining a “cult of personality” seriously? The 75 million real voters who voted for Trump in 2020 did so because they were under the influence of a “cult of personality”, really?

Those in positions of power who abuse their power and write ex post facto laws to enable themselves are the ones that seek to “make it too easy for” themselves.

Opus?

Maybe not for you, but there are too many people who will make excuses and vote for Trump, only because he is Trump, and not because of what he might do for the country.

Case in point, his "Veep-stakes".
Many people including Freepers have said they would vote for Trump no matter who he picked as a running mate, such as RFK Jr. or Tulsi Gabbard..
Its not "leftist rhetoric" if its true.

And I am glad you brought up Obama, who is definitely in the leftist pantheon, only bettered by FDR.
When Trump decided to go after Obama's birthplace in 2012 he put a "Big League" neon target on his back.
Even if he didn't decide to run for President, he was already under the scrutiny of the leftist establishment and the Obama administration.
From that point on he should have known to avoid any and every situation that could be twisted against him.

The “veepstakes” is a red herring. Consider that Mike Pence was called “far right” by the left, until of course he proved to be the complete opposite post-1/6/21. Nothing about the current speculation for this year indicates “cult of personality”, and throwing RFK Jr’s name in there is a distraction.

Also, Trump is not allowed to “go after Obama’s birthplace” but Hillary was?

Everyone who runs as a Republican frontrunner for POTUS assumes a target on his back and is immediately subject to “the scrutiny of the leftist establishment”. There is no avoiding anything that the left won’t try to twist against you; you have to fight it head on.

You have a number of red herrings here. What would Trump be planning to do that is against the country? To some he was an unknown after 2017, but he rapidly proved himself.

Just because I don't care for Mister Trump all that much, he's better than whatever surprise the Dems have in ready for us (it won't be Mister Biden, I highly suspect.)

I voted for Trump v Hillary, and also Trump v Biden. I've never missed a vote, and I've always voted for the GOPer (starting with Nixon's second term, I'm that old.)

Your post, however, brings up a valuable point.

You see, my FRiend, when I criticize Mister Trump, many hereabouts take that personally, and respond with some meanish comments and often way off the mark. (I'm not a Never Trumper, for example.) My point here is that nobody likes to be insulted, or to have their tightly held candidate roundly criticized. It's a lesson that Mister Trump has never, ever learned, and he's pushed many tepid supporters away by his insults, critical votes lost.

The irony is that Mister Trump is chronically thin-skinned, and can't countenance even the mildest criticism, much of it highly constructive if he would only see it.
