New York Jury Finds NRA Head Wayne Pierre Liable, Must Pay $4.3 Million in Damages

A New York jury found National Rifle Association (NRA) boss Wayne LaPierre liable in a civil case on Friday, ordering him to pay $4.3 million in damages for the mismanagement and misuse of charitable funds.

The verdict concludes a trial in the civil lawsuit brought by the Democratic Attorney General Letitia James of New York, accusing Mr. LaPierre of questionable financial practices during his tenure from 2014 to 2022.

The jury found that Mr. LaPierre violated his fiduciary duties, causing $5.4 million in damages to the NRA.

Notably, they recognized that he had repaid just over $1 million to the charity, which reduced the net damages.

In addition to the financial penalty, the jury determined that Mr. LaPierre should be removed from his position as executive vice president of the gun rights group.

The Manhattan jury found that Mr. LaPierre had misused millions of dollars from the organization’s funds to make personal luxury purchases over a span of 30 years.

The jury did not find Mr. LaPierre liable for breaking laws against self-dealing regarding a post-employment contract with the NRA, valued at over $17 million. They found that the arrangement had been properly approved in advance by the NRA board.

Despite Mr. LaPierre’s recent resignation, the judge will now decide whether to permanently bar him from any future leadership roles within the NRA in an upcoming bench trial.

Jury deliberations in the case began on Feb. 16.

The NRA was silent on the bumpstock ban. They still support a prez who infringed. 2A is all or nothing issue. I went to a range yesterday and ammo shelves were filled with empty boxes. Especially the black powder area. But this is in the people’s Republic of NC. Herr cooper doesn’t like 2A.

so much for the “Can only happen to Trump” BS.

Not only can it happen to anyone of us, it will eventually happen to all who do not kneel down before our ruling class.

This judgement, if allowed to stand, will destroy every single one of our liberties as well as totally destroying the Constitution.

I had heard that Wayne used the NRA as his personal piggy bank to live large for years.
It is why i let my NRA lapse.

Oliver North blew the whistle on La Pierre’s lavish expense account during his short tenue at the NRA. NY jumped on this internal issue as an excuse to bankrupt the organization via lawfare. The NRA moved its HQ to Texas way too late.

There have always been stories of out of state travelers passing through some southern hick town being pulled over for nothing, hauled before a corrupt judge and then being made to pay through the nose before they could continue on.

Corruption follows money as night follows day. The larger the pot of money, the greater the threat of corruption, especially at the top. Due diligence by Boards is required to keep things fairly honest, but if they’re all in on the scam the only thing to be done by members is move to another entity and let the corruption kill the host.

...from what I have read over the past few months, sadly, you are correct....I joined the NRA when this fraud Obama was nominated for President, and still maintain my membership....I believe I read that from a high membership of some 6 million, the NRA’s membership now is some 4.5 million or thereabouts...sad...this should not have happened....

Looks to me like a lot of following the law has more to do with getting out of the jurisdiction of State of New York courts than anything else.

Same crowd of vicious imbeciles who won't allow development of New Jerk state's Marcellus Shale deposits, which would make energy cheap for New York citizens.

I'm surprised these scum haven't gone up on trees.

Any sort of information on this NRA/LaPierre thing from the Media or the state of New Jerk, including its juries or law enforcement, is not worth trying to analyze.

It would be like the Gordian Knot of lies.

It’s possible for LaPierre to have been misappropriating compensation and shorting the organization, and for the organization to continue to have a right and purpose for existence. I am a lot more concerned about the 2nd point than the first. The NY AG uses her power to act on behalf of non-profit organizations to take this action, and that is understandable, and non-controversial in any jurisdiction in the US. But what I am expecting to hear from James is her announcement that in order to save the organization, she had to kill it. I suspect it is drafted and loaded up and may be heard at any time now.

Others should be constructing a parallel organization (in Texas) that can step in and pick up all of the proper functions of the NRA, particularly the lobbying, whenever the guillotine falls in NY.

March issue of NRA Magazines (Rifle and Hunter) have an article entitled ‘Farewell and Thank You’ by Wayne Lapierre. I would encourage all here to read it.

“...Ollie North was president of NRA for five minutes a couple of years ago. Soon found out how corrupt it was and split post haste....”

Yes, the old saying about power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, is true. It sure seems true for Joe & Jill Biden. It seemed true for the Obama’s and Clinton’s. It also seems true for various union bosses and La Pierre.

The NRA membership and political strength came from working men and women who didn’t want to support Wayne’s lavish lifestyle, just like most union workers don’t want their dues to pay for union leader’s lavish lifestyle or payoffs to corrupt politicians.

I use to be an NRA member a long, long time ago. I am now a member of several NRA affiliated clubs instead. I think that there are better organizations to support where my dues actually makes a difference. I still write to my elected officials when I learn about anti second amendment legislation.

For sure. NRA great for lobbying but has squandered too much money. GOA, 2nd Amendment Foundation, NAFGR, CCRKBA, etc doing the best with the courts. That’s where my money goes.
