“I have been streaming a lot of foreign cop shows”
There’s a lot of good stuff there, though the British shows are also getting woke. Wokeness is also starting to creep into the Scandinavian cop shows.
Even without the wokeness, American TV would struggle to find unexplored territory to exploit, so rather than produce “Hawaii 5-0” under another title, they just reboot the show with the original title and have a guaranteed audience. “Starsky & Hutch” and “Miami Vice” remakes are also rumored to be in the works.
There is tons of unexplored territory and many dozens of talented screenwriters, directors and producers out there.
They have all been muzzled.
The field of science fiction—just as one example—is almost totally unexplored compared to the amazing and wonderful history of novels and short stories.
My bookcases are filled with incredible tales of all different kinds—moving, inspirational, brilliant, wildly creative.
Hollywood’s wounds are totally self-inflicted. Then insist on being stupid jerks.
This is a golden opportunity for foreign film studios to make inroads and chip away at Hollywood dominance.
One of the best shows I watched recently was "Tehran" on AppleTV, an Israeli production. No wokeness. Russia and China also have robust film industries with a great deal of talent.
Americans don't like reading subtitles? No problem. Emerging AI technology will allow seamless dubbing into English in ways that are an order of magnitude more convincing than the horrible dubbing of those old Godzilla films.
Let Hollywood keep churning out garbage. Eventually someone else will step in and give us quality entertainment.
It’s been probably 15 years since I’ve watched network TV shows, so I have no idea what’s out there. Apparently I’m not missing anything. I don’t watch any TV anymore so my TV sits there unplugged.
Is Ted Lasso woke? I thought of trying it out. 🤷♂️
My wife and children are addicted to NCIS (Gibbs) and ‘literally’ watch nothing else. We were and are not a big TV family, I watch nothing. But they watch no other TV shows.
.......over the past couple of years, I’ve watched AGAIN (watched them in the sixties and seventies) all 700 odd episodes of Gunsmoke.
I love seeing Dillon dispense immediate, just, right and conclusive justice.
Thanks, I will check that out.
It’s not so much the content, but the ads that sicken us.
Apple+ is putting out some of the best TV since the glory days of HBO. As I mentioned up-thread, "Tehran" is another excellent show.
I read “Make Me” and can’t read anymore. The Dark Web stuff is something I had to work on in my last few years of government service and can’t handle it. Child’s depiction of some of the things occurring was way too spot on.
I don't think I'll be watching any more of this show.
"NCIS" added a gay black woman lab tech to replace the Goth woman lab tech.
Even "NCIS Hawaii" had to add a lesbian couple to the team (one of whom, ironically, is also a semi-regular in "The Chosen").

There used to be 3-4 channels in Indianapolis. VHF
Then UHF came along and gave us programs that needed to be subsidized.
Then HBO came and we could get ad-less shows if we paid a fee
Then cable showed up and we paid a fee and got ads, too.
Now we have 400-500 channels, more charges, more ads, and we get crap served to us.
Entropy wins again.
Oak Island - BAH!!
Can’t find nuttin’ with high-tech modern equipment, but the viewer is supposed to believe that someone, at some point in the past, buried something, so valuable, so deep, that it can’t be found today.
BULL!
I’ve had a chance to discover some good cancelled shows that I missed the first time:”Loudermilk” on Netflix is my latest discovery: https://youtu.be/WDfJn1kcQuU?si=E1MIlw8kgpSu0375
Love Patrick McGoohan, although The Prisoner > Dangerman. He was a close friend of Peter Falk in real life and appeared on Columbo.
Hit the Goodwill® store.
You'll find it within a month!
No shit?
I have read all the Reacher books up to #23 I think (I have had a real hard time reading since I had Covid due to a severely diminished attention span. Used to read 3 or 4 books a month and haven’t been able to finish one in a few years but that’s another story). The series “Reacher” on Prime is excellent and very true to the books. Definitely worth a try if you like the books and have Prime. The movies were crap. A 5 foot 6 guy playing Jack Reacher was a giant joke.
