Could be a squirrel chewed through a line or something.

Several weeks ago a transformer across the street blew up and we lost our power.

So I took a walk over to it and sure enough, there was a fried squirrel on the ground...LOL!

If it were sunspots wouldn’t it be more widespread? Wouldn’t sunspots also affect other type devices in addition to some phones?

Thinking the same thing. Solar Flares should also affect Canada at least.

The problem is easily solved by providing insulation to the contact between the incoming wire and the transformer. Bug your power company if the problem frequently recurs

Sunspots causing this AT&T outage is BS. They are the prime carriers for Verizon and TMobile. AT&T is the prime target and no one else. The naivety of this idea is incredible.

A CME could take out satellites…for a while. But they would take out more than ATT’s cellular network. Those kinds of solars storms are not really discriminating.

It was just reported on the local news. Nationwide outage. It’s not an attack by Russia or China. Remain calm.

Ah, so it's Iran or North Korea? Remain clam.

Some in Florida are out. Not mine. Posting this with my AT&T iPhone.

On the other hand, maybe AT&T is updating its snooping programs.

So what would happen if we had a national communication outage as well as other utility outages caused by an enemy?

America is looking more and more vulnerable.

We’d be screwed but who cares? We need to hurry up and allocate a few billion dollars to ensure that scenario couldn’t possibly happen in Ukraine or Israel.

The NW Exurbs are insanely overpopulated.

I went NE.

But they are getting too many people, too.

Maybe the liberals are right about mass-extermination of 90% of the people.

I had to check:

Cell phones and handheld radios have relatively small antennas. If they are not connected to electrical power supplies during the electromagnetic pulse (EMP) they may not be affected, but they do rely on an intact infrastructure for communications.

That’s a very interesting point, and another to-do. I should put my radios in a Faraday box.
