The city of Chicago on Tuesday sued six major oil companies and the primary fossil fuel lobbying group, alleging they funded and planned a campaign of climate change denial that directly affects the city’s residents.
In the lawsuit, the city accused BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, Phillips 66, Shell, and the American Petroleum Institute (API) of misleading the public about the impact of their products and of contributing to the effects of climate change on Chicago.
These impacts include unsafe summer temperatures, an increase in extreme weather, shoreline erosion and susceptibility to disasters such as flash flooding in basements on the city’s West Side, according to the lawsuit. As a result, the city says, climate mitigation and response projects in low-income communities have cost it nearly $200 million.

Every Gas Station needs to move out of Chicago - The city has a separate sales tax on Gas in addition to State and County Taxes - the loss of Sales Tax revenue could not be made up by the idiots in the City Council.
Chicago want to make sure the air is clean for all the invaders it is taking in.
Easy answer......no petrol products to chicongo.
Or within the city limits. May as well add natural gas, and any electricity generated by fossil fuels to the list of prohibited products. Oh and by the way that includes jet fuel for O'Hare and Midway airports.
“lawsuit provides a cover for payoffs they are demanding.”
Yep. Nothing but more lawfare. The radicals and Dems have discovered that’s the way to get money, keep political opponents off ballots, drain political opponents bank accounts, and keep everybody off balance all the time.
This should be immediately thrown out as a frivolous lawsuit and the plaintiffs sued to penury for bringing it, but the courts are in on the lawfare scam, so that won’t happen.
They should go full retard and impose a HUGE tax on people trying to leave the city. Maybe confiscate all their real estate profits when they sell their houses.
Fun with disclosure. Make them prove it. I think we will learn a lot unless this is more kabuki.
“And yes, the good people of Chitcago voted for this.”
“Good people??” You jest!
If they win, do they think the price of oil will go down? If all oil companies are forced to pay some form of fine for ‘hurting the climate’ then guess who they’ll pass that onto?
Besides, surely the DEMAND for oil is the problem, which makes the population also responsible. This is absurd.
Bankrupt Chicago, led by a socialist mayor, in bankrupt Illinois, sues oil companies for much needed revenue, as the city fails....
Tick tock.
They should move every office out of Illinois and take their tax dollars with them.
“I suspect all of this is going to get much, much worse in the coming years as many of these activist lawyers turn into hyper-activist judges.”
I believe you are right. There are NO countervailing forces to arrest the growth of lawfare. The trend is clearly more and more of this extra-legal abuse.
Maybe somebody should sue them for misinterpreting and lying about the dangers of “climate change”?
I read a lot more lies about how the global warming will kill us all than about anything else!
I will take this seriously as soon as they stop using all petroleum products in Chicago.
And now you see the real reason for the climate change agenda- to sue oil companies into oblivion, and get all their money for the states to give to terrorists and illegals who are filing across the border.
Gov went after “big tobacco” and won, and then set their eyes on “big oil” so they could steal their money too. Our gov has turned into jealous theives which tske people’s hard earned incomes by force- and they always Couch their thievery in the terms “for the children” and “for the earth”
Not the Bee?
Then why is Chicago doing business with these oh so evil companies? Cut ties. No oil for Chicago.
And in an effort to “mitigate” any further damages, they should all immediately STOP ALL SALES AND DELIVERIES to the entire State.
True. I worked for a couple of the major companies over my lifetime, and all they do is up the price of their products to settle these kinds of suits. What they ought to do, instead of raising the price of their products for the entire nation, is to slap a surcharge on all products shipped there. The liberals know they usually just settle and raise their prices, and are just playing litigation lottery with the companies, to benefit their failed policies and they don’t care if the cost is spread over the entire nation.
Cut off their gasoline and diesel.
