Haley resurfaces Trump remarks mocking veterans in new ad

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s latest ad showcases former President Trump’s past remarks mocking veterans as she attempts to ramp up her campaign ahead of the South Carolina primary later this month.

Haley’s campaign released the roughly 90-second ad Monday, after Trump took aim at Haley’s husband for being absent; he is serving in the military overseas. The ad includes snippets of news reports discussing past remarks from Trump, including him reportedly calling soldiers who died overseas “losers” and “suckers.”

The ad highlighted Haley’s response to Trump’s attack on her husband, who was deployed to Africa in June last year with the South Carolina Army National Guard.

“Donald Trump had a rally today and in that rally, he mocked my husband’s military service. And I’ll say this: Donald, if you have something to say, don’t say it behind my back, get on a debate stage and say it to my face,”

The ad includes other past remarks, like Trump joking about then-Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for being a prisoner of war by saying in 2015, “I like people who weren’t captured.” It also included Trump in 2018 attacking retired Navy Adm. William McRaven, who oversaw the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

“Donald Trump has a long track record of insulting our veterans,” Haley national spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said in a statement. “He has no business being commander in chief.

Trump also reportedly called Marines who died at Belleau Wood “suckers” and fallen soldiers at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery “losers.” And more...

Reported without *any* support, and despite widespread testimony to the contrary. Why would you treat this as credible?

The problem is he cannot keep his mouth shut

And here you are using a pair of examples where there is no credible report of him opening his mouth, and behavior which is decidedly inconsistent with his words and deeds. The problem here is not that he cannot keep his mouth shut, but rather that his opposition includes boundless liars and an industry which makes use of and amplifies those liars.

Every source for that crap comes from hardcore liberal media and Trump-haters.

It's a lie.

Years and years of McCain’s comments on the subject. I said ‘treated’, not ‘claimed’. McCain regularly wielded his POW status as a weapon in a way that even many veterans found offensive.

Whatever people think of McCain and he was a weasel, making the comment about him being captured was a stupid comment.

McCain was far more than a weasel. John Cornyn is a weasel. Kevin McCarthy is a weasel. McCain did lasting and deep damage to the country through his multiple "Gang of " so-called bipartisan deals like the Gang of Eight on immigration and Gang of Fourteen on judicial filibusters that always gave the Democrats the upper hand. Then there's his 2008 turn as designated loser to Obama in which McCain spent the better part of the campaign telling us what a swell guy Obama is. And finally, McCain's most lasting of damage of all in voting against the repeal of Obamacare to spite Trump on one of his major campaign promises. Of course, it's us, the American people who pay the heavy price on that of a destroyed health care system.

As far as I'm concerned, McCain turned any respect or sympathy he should have being a former POW into utter contempt by what he did as a politician. There is no longer McCain the hero POW, but McCain the bad politican. There's just McCain the galactically bad and damaging politician. He brought it on himself and his legacy.

This is why the people support Trump and not Haley. Haley lies. She lies, shamelessly just like a Democrat. Trump attacks his opponents, but he doesn’t lie about them the way Democrats and RINOs do.

There are about half a dozen witnesses most are unnamed but then-White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly (Gen USMC/Gold star father/Mustang)has come out saying he heard the comments.

I believe him.

Then I guess you have a source for that John Kelly statement and not just another “reported to have said” comment.

I know that Kelly didn't like the comment that Trump made about McCain, but other accounts wherein Kelly is supposed to have confirmed the Belleau Wood comment and the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery soldiers comment is very unclear and written by CNN, Atlantic, and NBC to sound like Kelly confirmed...but there is no direct confirmation by Kelly (except the word by those sources that Kelly confirmed).

Kelly is a Democrat and made no secret that he disliked Trump. That's not a problem.

But if you take the word of the liberal media for all that Kelly presumably heard and confirmed, you are being played by the enemy.

There is no way in hell that Trump believes that the soldiers and Marines who lost their lives in battle for our country are "suckers." He was incredibly supportive of our military and wouldn't make such a stupid statement.

That said, it's none of my business what you believe.

She really wants to run with an unverified quote that Trump was never recorded saying? What a clueless dummy.

That quote is right up there with Trump having golden showers with prostitutes in a Russian hotel.

"Even the general who was with Trump and does not like Trump said it was a lie."

General Kelly, his then Chief of Staff.

Even ChatGPT denies that Kelly confirmed what you have alleged. As an aside, I am not saying ChatGPT is the best source. But it isn't known to be a Conservative bastion either.
My Question:

Did General John Kelly confirm that Trump called the Marines that died at Belleau Wood "suckers"?

ChatGPT:

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, General John Kelly had not publicly confirmed that Donald Trump referred to the Marines who died at Belleau Wood as "suckers." The allegations regarding such remarks were reported in an article by The Atlantic in September 2020, citing anonymous sources. Several current and former Trump administration officials, including John Kelly, either denied the allegations or stated that they did not personally witness such comments.

It's important to note that developments in the news may have occurred since my last update, so I recommend checking the latest sources for any updates on this matter.

As I’ve posted, we can thank veterans for their service and disagree with their politics. Some people can’t do that.

And agreed if a veteran uses their service in a manner you describe. That has nothing to do with President Trump’s comments about someone being captured.

If President Trump mocked veterans in the past, you have to consider the context. The claim grew out of a false report by “The Atlantic” magazine in 2020 during his campaign for reelection against Biden. As if this claim was orchestrated, a media onslaught erupted. Mr. Biden called the reported comments “disgusting,” “sick, “deplorable,” “un-American” and “absolutely damnable,” adding that he was closer to losing his temper than at any point during the campaign. “I’ve just never been as disappointed in my whole career with a leader that I’ve worked with, president or otherwise.”

President Trump denied that he made the remarks repeatedly over the course of the day and rallied current and former aides who backed him up on the record. “It’s a fake story and it’s a disgrace that they’re allowed to do it,” he told reporters in the Oval Office, insisting that he respected the troops. “To me, they’re heroes,” he said. “It’s even hard to believe how they could do it. And I say that, the level of bravery, and to me, they’re absolute heroes.”

It was John F. Kelly, a retired four-star Marine general who served as his White House chief of staff at the time of the reported episode that was terminated by President Trump. It was Kelly that may have been the source of the false remarks in that “Atlantic” article.

That Haley resurrected those false remarks tells me she is grabbing at straws as her campaign is sinking.

Re: 80 - I never said he started with that premise.

What I said was why even bring MAJ Haley up, other than to thank him for his service?

My thoughts too. Haley’s husband, a Major, is deployed with the South Carolina Army National Guard in a year long deployment with the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Bridge, which is providing support in the Horn of Africa. I am sure he could have stopped his deployment in order to support Nikki’s campaign. This, I think, was the purpose of President Trump’s questioning.
