Trump will pull US out of NATO if he wins election, ex-adviser warns

As US allies reel from Donald Trump’s weekend comments encouraging Russia to attack European allies if they don’t meet NATO budget contribution goals, multiple former Trump advisers warn in my upcoming book that the former president will seek to formally withdraw the US from the NATO alliance if he wins a second term.

In “The Return of Great Powers”, which will be published March 12, a former senior US official, who served in both the Trump and Biden administrations at a high level, told me that if Trump defeats President Joe Biden in November “the US will be out of NATO.”

“NATO would be in real jeopardy,” John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser, agreed. “I think he would try to get out.”

Trump’s disparagement of US security commitments extends to its mutual defense agreements with South Korea and Japan as well, retired General John Kelly, who served as White House chief of staff to Trump, told me.

“The point is, he saw absolutely no point in NATO,” Kelly said in the book. “He was just dead set against having troops in South Korea, again, a deterrent force, or having troops in Japan, a deterrent force.”

“He thought (Vladimir) Putin was an okay guy and Kim (Jong Un) was an okay guy that we had pushed North Korea into a corner,” Kelly recalled. “To him, it was like we were goading these guys. ‘If we didn’t have NATO, then Putin wouldn’t be doing these things.’”

“Idiots who say the West would be better off with Putin in charge. Last night they were saying Putin and Xi are better models for the West to follow.”

When Lenin seized power in Russia the first thing he did was he rounded up the Red Octoberists and executed them.

When Hitler took power the first thing he did was to slaughter the Brown Shirts who helped him seize power.

Castro did the same to the revolutionaries who supported him. So did Mao. So did Pol Pot.

My one cold comfort of a possible dictatorship in America is that these dictator-lovers will be the first martyrs to their cause.

Sic semper tyrannus.

Well, NATO members messed with our 2020 election, colluded with out “Intelligence” agencies, and are trying to force us into a Global one world monetary system. Make us slaves out on the plantation.

And destroy our Constitution and enslave the World.

“I thought Stalin was the one who killed off all the old Bolsheviks.”

Russians killing Russians is a common event in Russian history. Sad.

The US should have told France, Germany, and England to make peace when they asked us to join in WW 1. We should NEVER have kept sending arms to the Brits, they are as much a source of trouble as any other nation. They paid NO PRICE for their meddling in the world with their Empire. We bailed them out every time they faltered. The best you can say for them is???? I can’t think of anything big they ever did for us.

I don’t think that a President can unilaterally pull out of a treaty obligation.

The agreement falls apart if the member states refuse to adhere to the rules and obligations agreed to.

You and those hellbent on fighting a proxy war or starting a hot war with Russia are the biggest threat to national and world security.

Which nation’s security are you concerned with? Certainly not America. You are not worth bothering with.

Fully agree with Trump’s NATO take. The mutuality of a NATO Alliance has gradually morphed over the decades into the singularity of a NATO Reliance with US’ wealthy EU partners relying on the US to do all the heavy lifting, militarily, monetarily, providing advanced intelligence and weaponry for their land war threats while they are useless to us in defense of our homeland which will come in the way of a high tech air and missile attack, not a land war. As such, the treaty needs to be amended with member states required to form the joint standing military they have been pretending they want to institute for ages to defend Europe by a date certain and immediately required to up their countries’ defense spending to 2% of GDP. Barring that, we should leave the Reliance. We don’t need to be paying child support for someone else’s baby while we are trying to raise our own.

I've been anti-NATO since the 1990s. It should have been dissolved within a year of the Warsaw Pact. Remember that "peace dividend" we didn't get? NATO stole it.

While I'm at it, I also think we need to get out of the UN and all its agencies.
