If the performer could have resisted the pretentious trills, riffs, and ostentatious ornamentations, we pale people could have understood the WORDS of this magnificent hymn, and gladly risen to our feet.
She was so busy showing off her vocal virtuosity that she rendered this song unintelligible. But, she got to show off, and I guess that’s all that REALLY mattered.
For now, standing for the Negro National Anthem is optional.
What about the ‘illegals National Anthem’?
