Though the district broke for Biden over Trump by 8 points in 2020, the signs of a Republican renaissance – and diminishing returns from a disjointed Democratic state party – were soon to come on display.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer lost the county while otherwise cruising to reelection in 2022. The year before, Democrat Laura Curran, the top official in Nassau County, was ousted by Republican Bruce Blakeman. GOP gains continued into 2023 – well after the Santos fiasco was in full flight – and Republicans are now close to dominant in local offices.
Tuesday’s special election, though, is unique in a number of ways. Where New York Democrats garnered little national attention in 2022 – until their slew of losses in suburban seats across the state helped the GOP win control of the House – the party is full throttle behind Suozzi this time out. It also helps that Brooklyn’s Hakeem Jeffries is now the top House Democrat.
“Hakeem is a beast – for better or for worse,” said one progressive Democratic operative, who spoke anonymously because of the delicate nature of intrastate politics. “I appreciate the fact that he’s realized that, if you leave the race in the state party’s hands, we’re all going down.”

If you live in this district, go vote!
Now imagine that Donald Trump said: “Hakeem is a beast". That would probably be the most racist thing anyone has ever said. We would be lectured that Mr. Jeffries is a human being and not an animal.
It will be storming all day tomorrow. Demoncraps have the mail in ballot scheme perfected, so if real voters don’t show up at the polls as a consequence of the snow…
.
Oh woe is me. Why vote? [Wring hands. Sigh.]
Republicans crowing over a victory before the election. That’s never gone wrong before oh wait weren’t the Republicans crowing over a “red wave” before the mid term elections in ‘22? Yet they barely retained the majority and idiot RINOs frequently vote with Democrats. I’ll believe it when I see it. It has been my observation that Democrat voters rarely if ever break from the party of evil no matter how big a mess the Democrats make of the country. Their devotion to the Democrat party makes the SS’s devotion to Hitler look trivial.
It may not matter that much. All indications are that this special election is a contest between two lifelong Democrats … one of whom suddenly decided in the last year or so that she’s actually a Republican.
government protects government ….. the executive protects, the legislative protects, the judiciary protects, and the lamestream media is paid by all to protect and none of the prior protect the People. Not what was intended but is what is. Is “is” defined yet ?
Special elections aren’t talked about nearly as much as they used to be on our side with the Democrat media is always in full throttle anymore. I remember when a single special election or off year election would have the full attention of the talk radio circuit for weeks to energize the base and draw national attention to what some were passive about, which likely made the difference in many cases in winning or losing. Now, often times the only mention may be the day of “oh, don’t forget if you are listening in “x” that here’s a special election - so go vote” which is hardly effective.
We’ve really been asleep at the switch across the board for years. Gone are the days the whole conservative media sphere was focused on something like a Supreme Court race in Wisconsin for a month or more prior to the election...which we won. Last time around, it was not mentioned and the Left won because they *were* paying attention.
Republicans arem't reaissancing anything. They are too effin stypid. It's voter who despire democrats so much that they will take almost anything. This is important because when a "republican" candidate wins and electeion he/she needs to know that this is because of the voters and not the Syupid idiot self-dealing corrupt self-destructive did-I-say-really-effin-dumb RNC.
Deep State hedged its bets by running a candidate in both parties.
That’s what happens when we allow Deep State to choose our candidates for us.
This is why we have to use every tool available. The “vote only on election day” strategy is a bad idea - the Democrats know way in advance who voted and who has not and who to reach out to the last minute, whereas our side are left sitting ducks with no such advantage...plus, something can always happen to prevent you from getting the polls - family emergency, weather, sickness, and just plain forgetting...which can swing a close election.
Well, what is the RNC doing about it - well taking bribes from billionairs to do nothing, which is a natural state of being for RINOs. Through generations of in-breeding it's in their genes - I will keep standing here doing nothing, but I need a little taste of the acteion.
And vote several times because the Rats will.
They’ve got plenty of time to print up the needed winning ballots.
Very bad weather tomorrow for Long Island, possible blizzard conditions. Turnout will be key.
Would it surprise you if Hochul called for a “state of emergency” closing roads?
True
I think you are correct.
