Putin, in rambling interview, barely lets Tucker Carlson get a word in
Washington Post MSN ^ | 2/8/2024 | Francesca Ebel

Russian President Vladimir Putin spent the first 30 minutes of his two-hour-long interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson giving a revisionist historical tirade on the founding myths of Russia and Ukraine, the breakup of the Soviet Union and NATO expansionism.

From there, admonishing Carlson when he interrupted, Putin pontificated on everything from the war in Ukraine and relations with the United States, the case of imprisoned American reporter Evan Gershkovich, and even on artificial intelligence.

By the end of the conversation, it was clear that Putin had no intention of ending his brutal war against Ukraine. But Carlson, who was sacked from Fox last year, seemed ready to surrender. Putin offered to keep talking. Carlson, evidently exhausted by the Russian leader’s longwinded conspiracy theories and grievances against the West, thanked him and called it quits -- far short of the media coup that he had been touting.

Carlson spent most of the two-hour interview in silence, or looking confounded.

At several moments, when Carlson tried to interject, he was chastised by the president.

“I'll tell you, I'm coming to that. This briefing is coming to an end. It might be boring, but it explains many things,” said Putin in a condescending tone.

“It’s not boring. [I’m] just not sure how it’s relevant,” said Carlson. Putin responded that he was “gratified” and appreciated that.

I’m willing to give our New Mexico governor back to Old Mexico. She’s a real piece of work.

Lololo unlike Vannity, who never lets the interviewee get a word in. Isn’t it the person being interviewed who is supposed to do most of the speaking?

I have to ask. Is it him? Is that Putin or a Putin double or what?

I’ve heard about Putin doubles and about sick Putin, dying Putin, dead Putin, Weekend at Vlad’s Putin, etc. Putin, so, for those who study the man, his mannerisms, his voice, etc., is that Putin or not?

Just curious, myself, but I would love to know one way or the other.

Thanks in advance.

Megyn Kelly interviewed Putin in June 2017. He seemed to be more sociable with her during that interview, than he was now with Carlson. Maybe it isn’t the same guy.

Nope. Putin's point is Carlson was lucky. Putin was mocking the CIA

I took that the same way and possibly an answer to the reason Tucker got the interview when all the other CIA controlled media types were turned down.

What’s REALLY sad is the Putinists’ defense of a murderous monster who resembles a shaved chimpanzee in the face and who bombs civilians more than military targets in order to steal their country...

Such good “Christians” they are.

“I wonder if Carlson has finally discovered what a fool he has been after coming face to face with sociopathic Putin.”

Putin talked a very good game for USSR; although, like the NYTs with five “journalists” creating a “long-winded” diatribe.

Contrast Biden’s speech for USA.

It was a great interview and the contrast to the Joe Biden fiasco was an amazing event.

Putin is a very capable man and he showed that is pretty much exactly what Trump described - a very smart and deadly serious adversary with a world view that is much different than that of a Western politician. He is a very sharp and formidable leader with a very cold, very hard hearted worldview

Putin very carefully gave his perspective on how the Ukraine conflict started and how the original cease fire and peace agreement was torpedoed by Biden and Boris Johnson.

He also made it clear that he was willing to negotiate the end of the conflict but that as above, he has no partner that wants peace.

He sees the war as being waged by a Biden Administration and an EU that has not changed it's position since they torpedoed the peace agreement and wants their proxy war in Ukraine to continue despite the death and destruction it is causing for Ukrainians.

And, as he said, his opponents have underestimated Russia and Russia is on the verge of winning the conflict outright. The unstated implication is that the West has two options. The first is to immediately initiate talks on a negotiated cease fire that gives hard concessions to Russia. The second is to see the Ukraine face collapse and total loss and be over run by the Russian military.

Given what we are seeing with the desperation of the entire Democrat and much of the Republican Establishment to ram a Ukrainian funding package to keep the conflict alive through Congress to delay the day of reckoning for themselves for the war they have enabled , Putin's view is neither unreasonable nor unjustified. The tragedy of all of this that Biden Administration wants to keep supporting military and financial support for Ukraine not to bolster them so that they can have the maximum leverage to negotiate a reasonable peace agreement, but instead to keep the fight going with the West's increasingly depleted military and financial resources in a futile effort to keep the conflict stoked with death and destruction until the inevitable total collapse of the Ukraine's ability to resist and Russia's total victory or direct and open conflict with NATO if it tries to intervene.

We have recently seen a lot of unserious, disingenuous and even outright lying drivel from some really feckless and even outright dumb American politicians for the last several years.

Go hit youtube for the highlights of Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Jamie Raskin, Adam Schiff, Liz Cheney , Adam Kinzinger, Joe Biden, Bennie Johnson, Christopher Wray, Merrick Garland, The Squad, Gavin Newsome and the rest of the bizzaro world Washington freak show

Then watch the Putin interview to see the contrast between our totally corrupt and unserious political class and the deadly serious and formidable adversaries we face on the world stage.

--- "Praising Putin does nothing to stop the flow of illegal immigrants across the border into Texas, Arizona, or any other state."

Praising Putin? You lie outright. Nothing about your comment to me has any validity or truth.

My comment was validating "everlast" comment #112. In neither his nor mine was there any "praising Putin." I will repeat it again verbatim.

--- "We protect Ukraine’s borders but not our own."

Kudos for the clarity. Worth repeating.

To trot out a Cathy Newman stratagem -- "so what you're saying is..." -- is not discussion, and certainly not debate. No one is "praising Putin." Your need to construct a straw man is evident.

Our nation is in deep trouble from rapidly rising debt, as well as "the flow of illegal immigrants across the border."

How much in trouble? $34.215 TRILLION in trouble, with rising deficits. By the time you read this comment, that number will be incorrect for being too small.

Debt Clock

In the movie Zoolander the “Blue Steel” pose was revealed.
We need a term for that Tucker pose.

That said, Tucker was 100% on for the Putin interview. I tuned in expecting to listen to Putin, NOT have Tucker put words in Putin’s mouth, read off a string of gotcha questions, talk over Putin, be argumentatitve, and clip the interview to show Putin in a bad light or block a golden observation

“Certainly knows his country’s history.”

What are his views on Holodomor?

Or current massacres by Russian soldiers in Ukraine at Bucha and Irpin, that Tucker Carlson never brought up?

No its moronic. Weapons sent to Ukraine or Israel, like Javelins or Himars would not have been used to "protect" our southern border. Idiocy

Not what he said, nor what I said, 'Cathy.' Reading comprehension and the propping up of straw men seems to be quite the rage these days.

Right, so because of Bidens idiocy on our southern border, we should not have a coherent foreign policy and weapons should not be sent to Israel, Taiwan or Ukraine? Idiocy

--- "... a coherent foreign policy and weapons should not be sent to Israel, Taiwan or Ukraine?"

Dear 'Cathy,' the foreign policy in this last three years lies in the province of " Bidens idiocy," as you put it.

Trying to put in other people's mouths your own PERSONAL view on foreign policy -- apparently not the US government's in this moment -- is yours to do. But it is you doing it....

One observes, a 'Cathy' who builds straw men, that you are adding things to an original statement which cannot be found in it.

So, again:

My comment was validating "everlast" comment #112. In neither his nor mine was there any "praising Putin." I will repeat it again verbatim.
