Squatters are ruining entire neighborhoods in Atlanta and police response to evict is so slow, some homeowners have resorted to paying nuisances to leave.
Brazen squatters even opened an illegal strip club on a property they had taken over — one of the 1,200 homes which has been squatted in the city according to the National Rental Home Council (NRHC) trade group.
“I’d be terrified in Atlanta to lease out one of my properties,” Matt Urbanski, who manages a local home-cleaning company, told Bloomberg.
Urbanski’s company cleans out homes for corporate landlords, and in some cases has to remove squatter’s possessions.
Recently one of his employees was shot after attempting to remove intruders from a property.
Simon Frost, CEO of large-scale landlord Tiber Capital Group, said there have been incidents of unlawful occupants brandishing weapons and threatening neighbors which affects the safety of neighborhoods and other residents, according to Bloomberg.
Evicting squatters in Atlanta is tough, involving negotiating court backlogs and strained police resources.
Meanwhile, online listings and virtual real estate agents make it easy for squatters to identify vacant properties to break into.

I’ve seen lots of homeowners on FoxNews talking about how their rentals have been taken over by squatters, and the laws haven’t been present to protect them and punish squatters. One state implemented laws to do that, but I can’t remember which state.

Three entirely different situations. How can you even lump the land-owning, productive Amish in with the other two situations? They were not herded into a government reservation; their Anabaptist forefathers came to this continent before the United States was even formalized, and established their communities by land grants or by buying land.

Do some of these squatters drive on The Perimeter? I drove that for my first time on the way back from Maryland to Florida in January, and that thing is an eight-lane Cuisinart!
My first week in Atlanta, I was driving the perimeter. A cop pulled me over. I told him I didn’t think I was speeding: I was doing the speed limit.
He told me he pulled me over to tell me I have to drive a lot faster than the speed limit.
They cheated for it.
Illegal strip club? Is that like way worse than a legal strip club? Hear me out, though, what if you combined the illegal strip club with illegal backyard wrestling?? A twofer combo, $100 per person.
