New quality glitch to delay some Boeing 737 MAX deliveries: Supplier Spirit AeroSystems Discovers Two Mis-drilled Holes on Some Fuselages.

Boeing Co. , said on Sunday it will have to do more work on about 50 undelivered 737 MAX airplanes, potentially delaying some near-term deliveries, after its supplier Spirit AeroSystems , discovered two mis-drilled holes on some fuselages.

Boeing confirmed the findings in response to a Reuters query after industry sources said an "edge margin", or spacing problem, had been found in holes drilled on a window frame on some jets.

Boeing, which has been under fire from regulators and airlines since the Jan. 5 blowout of a door plug on a 737 MAX 9, said safety was unaffected and existing 737s could keep flying.

"This past Thursday, a supplier notified us of a non-conformance in some 737 fuselages. I want to thank an employee at the supplier who flagged to his manager that two holes may not have been drilled exactly to our requirements," Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal said in a letter to staff referring to Spirit, which is the sole 737 fuselage supplier.

"While this potential condition is not an immediate flight safety issue and all 737s can continue operating safely, we currently believe we will have to perform rework on about 50 undelivered airplanes," Deal said in the letter, first reported exclusively by Reuters. Spirit spokesperson Joe Buccino told Reuters that as part of its 360-degree quality management program, a member of its team identified an issue that did not conform to engineering standards.

"We are in close communication with Boeing on this matter," he said.

Deal said Boeing plans to devote several "factory days" this week at the Renton 737 plant outside Seattle to work on the mis-aligned holes and finish off other outstanding work. Such days allow teams to pause normal work and attend to specific tasks without shutting production.

When it comes to aerospace manufacturing and repair, the words “Quality” and “glitch” should never have to be used in the same report, much less the same sentence.

Detailed manufacturing records should be available to pinpoint the person(s), processes, tooling and everything else that went into these defects.

“will have to do more work on about 50 undelivered 737 MAX airplanes....”

I certainly hope they’ve cleared the ones already in service!

The human heart is born full of wicked ideas and desires, You dont have to teach a child to do bad, you have to teach them to do good.

if this isnt so, then why are godless people most likely to rob, rape and kill?

When I was in high school we had to take a shop class. No matter which class one took part of the class was blueprint reading and how to interpret measurements. Students today probably don’t get that exposure so they don’t learn the finer points of reading blueprints. So we end up with someone drilling holes at say 1 11/16 which they measure as 1 5/8. Or worse would be decimal measures!

I don’t fly much at all, but when I do, I will ensure it’s not on a Boeing 737, or any Boeing plane for that matter!

Anybody that thinks this kind of stuff is news or has never happened before has never worked in aerospace.

Quality escapes on one or two aircraft is not uncommon. The simple fact that the article mentions 50 aircraft is GROSS INCOMPETENCE. It takes a long time to move 50 aircraft through production. In other words, this incompetence and lack of QC didn’t just happen overnight.

This DEI crap is going to get people killed!!!

THOSE FUSELAGES HAD TO HAVE BEEN LEAKING AND NOT PRESSURIZING CORRECTLY. THE CREWS HAD TO HAVE BEEN OPERATING THE PRESSURIZATION MANUALLY INSTEAD OF AUTOMATICALLY, ERGO, MAINTENANCE WRITEUPS HAD TO HAVE BEEN PUT INTO THE LOGS NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE AIRCRAFT TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR.

” So we end up with someone drilling holes at say 1 11/16 which they measure as 1 5/8.”

I don’t think humans drilled the holes.
