Trump’s candidacy on the Illinois ballot should be decided by the courts, an elections board hearing officer says
The Chicago Sun Times ^ | January 28, 2024 | Dave McKinney

Posted on 01/28/2024 8:30:08 PM PST by PBRCat

The hearing officer, a retired Republican judge, wrote a scathing assessment of Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection but said the courts ultimately should decide. The full board will consider the matter Tuesday

Former Republican President Donald Trump participated in the fatal Jan. 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, but it’s the courts — and not the State Board of Elections — that should decide whether to remove him from Illinois’ primary ballot, a state hearing officer recommended Sunday.

“the fatal Jan. 6th insurrection”

* No fatalities that day EXCEPT for Ashli E. Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, killed by Capitol Police.
* No guns
* No “insurrection”
* No attempt to overthrow the government

What an arsehole.

In order to protect democracy, we need to jail the leading opposition candidate and censor and/or otherwise harass his numerous supporters. Our democracy is at stake!!

(Except that it’s a Republic, not a democracy, etc.)

Because the people shouldn’t be deciding who they want to run for office.

Yes there was a second fatality, Rosanne Boyland, who was beaten to death by a black female capitol police officer outside the capitol.

Well of course we should let unelected political appointees select who can be voted to be President.

It should be according to law.

The law of the banana republic - just like the circus in New Jerk City, and your heroes U.S. District Clinton stooge Lewis Kaplan and his uninformed mob-jury.

Has the 45th President shown his tax returns to get on the ballot?

Oh wait......that was another scam that didn’t work.

At what point do Republicans in Congress start defunding this crap?

They could start with any non profit law parasites, that are bringing lawfare against Trump.

Here are a couple of names to start with:

“Free Speech for People” and “Citizens for “Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.”

If they kick Trump off the ballot, then Trump’s votes should go to RFK, Jr. to deny Bidet traditional Blue State electoral votes. If Trump voters vote for RFK, Jr. in these places, we at worst get a contingent election for POTUS in the U.S. House of Representatives.

a retired Republican judge

In Illinois, this translates as an Assistant Democrat, or cryptoDemocrat.

The hearing officer should be committed to a mental institution.

No taxation without representation. The sentiment then applies to today.
A government that doesn’t allow the people to choose their leaders is illegitimate.

All you’re interested in is an outcome. Not a just and legal outcome. But an outcome.

I believe that portion of the constitution is sketchy as it doesn’t speak to conviction. So we have to have interpretation of the intent.

Do you believe convicted felons should be allowed to vote? If Trump becomes a convicted felon, do you believe he should be able to become President?
