House Republicans announced two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Sunday, accusing him of failing to do his job by allowing thousands of asylum seekers to enter the country amid record-breaking illegal crossings.
The articles accuse Mayorkas of willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust.
The House Homeland Security Committee is expected to approve the charges at a Tuesday hearing and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) vowed Friday to hold a floor vote “as soon as possible.”
Mayorkas, 64, would be the second Cabinet secretary in US history to be impeached — and first since Secretary of War William Belknap in 1876.
The first article says Mayorkas chose not to enforce the law, specifically a requirement that asylum seekers who illegally cross the border “shall be detained” until there is a decision on their status — with release into the US interior only allowed on a case-by-case basis. Mayorkas said this month that 85% of migrants who illegally enter the US are being released to await decisions. That figure is in addition to a separate program created last year that allows 30,000 asylum seekers per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela to enter the country through legal ports of entry to await case decisions.
The second article of impeachment accuses Mayorkas of lying to Congress about the border being “secure” and failing to comply with document requests. *** Nearly 2.5 million people were apprehended after illegally crossing the US-Mexico border in fiscal year 2023, which ended Sept. 30, in addition to an estimated 670,000 “gotaways” who were able to evade arrests.
Fiscal year 2022 set the previous record of nearly 2.4 million detentions — up from 1.7 million in fiscal 2021.

4. Mayorkas was on the board of directors of HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) a 501(c)(3) which originally facilitated the emigration of Jews from Europe to the United States. The HIAS mandate has expanded to include non-Jews as well. A large part of the illegal immigration into the United States is being encouraged and financed by groups such as HIAS.

Might as well impeach The GOP Senators while they’re at it that are trying to legalize illegal immigration for Biden and Mayorkas. Haven’t they been talking about impeaching Mayorkas for a while now? Nothing ever happens.

A leader change will not result in a policy change.
Belknap was corrupt and resigned his office before the House vote. He was impeached anyways. Proving that the District Of Corruption was already quite corrupt by 1876 the Senate failed to get necessary votes to convict.
Like his boss, Mayorkas is a lying, murdering traitor to the United States but at best the House RINOgeldings' articles of impeachment will include nothing worse than charges of jaywalking and spitting on the sidewalk.
If nothing else, he has violated his oath of office.
He is not faithfully executing the laws of the US, failing to uphold the Constitution and failing to protect the US from enemies foreign.

If they were serious, they would have done this on day one, when they took the house back.
Mayorkas is not unfit. He is doing a brilliant job - for somebody else.

I'm not speaking on behalf of patriots, and the timing of this thing is undoubtedly sensitive, but “we” want a vote on impeachment, not a smoke and mirrors "unveils."

Mayorkas knows he won’t suffer many consequences. Communists always have some fall guys and he is accomplishing his mission so he doesn’t care. He’ll just move on to the next job which entails taking down the United States.
