The anti-war candidate channelling Russians’ discontent with Putin [Boris Nadezhdin]
Financial Times ^ | 28JAN2024 | Courtney Weaver and Anastasia Stognei

Russians opposed to Vladimir Putin for years have been inspired by telegenic anti-corruption campaigners willing to risk their freedom and even their lives to expose the Kremlin’s crimes.

Now, after two years of war and with most opposition figures either in jail, in exile or dead, they have been left with Boris Nadezhdin. Asked by a reporter on Wednesday whether Putin considered Nadezhdin a political threat, the president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “We do not consider him a rival. Not at all.”

Yet political analysts said it was unlikely the Kremlin would allow Nadezhdin’s popularity to progress too far. Authorities could refuse to put him on the ballot, by deeming some of his signatures invalid, they said, or find some other means to influence him, such as the threat of prison.

“Authorities could refuse to put him on the ballot, by deeming some of his signatures invalid, they said, or find some other means to influence him, such as the threat of prison.”

I tell you, Russia is a TOTALLY BACKWARDS COUNTRY. In a FREE COUNTRY, like the United States, the people in power would NEVER dream of doing that.

Glad I don’t live there.

Russian blogger:

Nadezhdin will not be allowed to participate in the elections. The Kremlin has become tense because of the candidate.

Boris Nadezhdin, who will most likely not be allowed to participate in the elections by the Central Election Commission. The problem will be signatures that are “wrongly” collected. Sources in the Kremlin told us about this.

According to our information, Nadezhdin’s position on the [Ukrainian invasion] and anti-Putin rhetoric in general are causing a negative reaction from the Administration. At the same time, some groups are even in conflict over the liberal [Note Liberal = not US liberal, but UK liberal, i.e more like libertarian] candidate.

“Kiriyenko believes that it was Gromov who pushed Nadezhdin to the elections. He is sure that Gromov is helping him (Nadezhdin - Ed.),” said our source in the Kremlin. According to him, at this moment there is no final decision on whether to allow Nadezhdin to participate in the elections, however, with a 90% probability he will not be included in the electoral lists of the Central Election Commission.

At the same time, political strategists who cooperate with the Kremlin hint that they are surprised by the intensification of Nadezhdin’s campaign. According to Kiriyenko’s plan, none of the really significant anti-war candidates should be in the elections. We talked about the story of Abramovich’s failed nomination here ...

“Kiriyenko is angry with Gromov because he launched a technician (technical candidate - Ed.), and he got out of control,” says a source close to Kiriyenko. At the same time, he admits that there is no evidence of a real connection between Gromov and Nadezhdin and his staff.

“The presence of a candidate with anti-war slogans can confuse all the cards for the Kremlin. Yes, this will not seriously affect the elections, but the AP [=Presidential Administration] needs a result, and a solid result - at least 80% for Putin. Multi-day and remote voting will be used, but if suddenly there is an anti-war wave, then who knows what this will lead to. I think it’s more profitable for the AP to remove Nadezhdin from harm’s way,” a political strategist who previously collaborated with the Kremlin and now advises several Moscow City Duma deputies told us.

For those hoping to oust Putin, Nadezhdin has an appropriate name, which comes from “Nadezhda,” meaning “hope.”

“(Ouch!)”

I don’t even know why people post these articles. First, we’re not giving Putin A DIME - if anything, we’re stealing from him. Second, he’s no worse than Zelensky. And third, the United States is in NO POSITION to lecture Russia on Human Rights, considering our Jan 6th prisoners.

“Authorities could refuse to put him on the ballot...”

This seems like a familiar issue for some reason.

Boris Nadezhdin is as popular with Russians as a Jew is at Mecca, however, his popularity with Americans, American Agents and American Mainstream Media is a different story.

Well, the article starts out by saying that they hate Putin, so what exactly would we expect from them?

Are they a minority or a majority of Russians? In reality, is there any nation that absolutely loves their leader?

So, what exactly is the news factor here?

—”Well, the article starts out by saying that they hate Putin,”

How could they hate Putin?

Putin has done such a great job.

Just a few short years back alcohol was the number one killer of Russian males, with AIDS and heroin moving up fast.

Putin has nearly banished the top killers of Russian males.

Now his meat wave attacked have taken the top spot.

Demographics are destiny.
If crops are planted who will be there for the harvest?

Russian working-age males have a death rate about four times that for U.S. males of the same age group, with rates of death due to external causes (accidents, injuries, violence) six times the U.S. rate and those due to infectious and parasitic diseases five times the U.S. rate.

Boris Nadezhdin told the BBC he was unlikely to win 17 March elections but Mr Putin would not last six more years. His team says he has gathered more than 100,000 signatures, enough to stand as a candidate.

He believes he will be allowed to stand in the elections, although unconfirmed sources say anti-war candidates will be barred.

100,000 is a lot, we will see how it goes and which paragraphs will be used if he is not allowed to stand.

Reasonable post, but personally, I’m more interested to see if Trump is allowed to stand.

This thread is about the Russian election.

Your what about question probably has other threads, otherwise you might want to start one.

My point’s been made, which is that we’re in NO POSITION to lecture other countries about elections anymore.

Goodness gracious, you could almost say the same about Biden, but yet I never hear you do so. Is that because you admire Biden?

But again, we Americans have nothing to say about how the Russian people may feel about Putin, but we can see that Putin is the better leader who at least puts Russia & her citizens above outside interests. Biden doesn't even pretend to do that. The evidence to support that is East Palestine, Hawaii, and the unfettered invasion of our country where we reward the invaders with taxpayer money as out nation crumbles in decay & disrepair.

I can think of no leader on this earth that is without issues, and that includes Trump to be honest. But at least he does for this nation & her people.

Also, Ukraine is far from perfect, in fact it isn't any better than Russia.

So, why exactly are we involved in that regional conflict?

I'll tell you why, because Ukraine has all the goods on Biden, and Biden must be protected. He cannot be outed as the scumbag that he actually is. You should be so proud of yourself.

I think you chose your moniker wisely, DUMBGRUNT.

Are you sure about that?

Boris Nadezhdin, the hope of all Russian liberals and a presidential candidate who is supposedly in opposition to Putin, says that the indigenous peoples of America are Russians

LOL

thanks for the comedy break!

Putin is a lousy leader - Russia has a falling standard of living, Putin is killing off a whole generation of young men with his idiotic war obsession, and the Russian economy - barely the size of Texas' - is moving backwards

By any measure, that's a lousy leader
