The fact-check outlet had previously stated Biden wore the hat in standard fashion.
Misinformation hall-monitor website Snopes was forced to reverse a fact-check on Saturday after making the false claim the Joe Biden did not wear a hard hat backwards during a recent photo-op with construction workers.
When Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) posted the photo of Biden to X with several other construction workers, users responded slamming Biden for wearing the hard hat backwards.
One user zoomed into the photo and posted, "Why his hard hat is wore backward?"
Others were quick to respond to Biden's often middle-class image that is portrayed in media, saying, "Hat backwards because 'he’s a man of the people.'"
"He’s never done a hard days work has he," the X user continued.
The post from Klobuchar started to gain traction and has been seen over 2.4 million times as of Saturday afternoon. As the photo went viral, Snopes was quick to publish a fact-check of claims that the Biden had been wearing the construction gear wrong.
In a now changed post, Snopes writers said, "The photo is genuine. And it does look, at first glance, like Biden was wearing that hard hat backwards. But after comparing it to other photos and videos of the same event, we were forced to reach the opposite conclusion: The hat on Biden's head was facing forward, bill to the front, not backward." The media company rated the claim it was backwards as "false" in their reporting when published on Jan. 26.
By Saturday afternoon, Snopes had reversed course on the claim after posting the fact-check on X with the caption, "Folks are saying Biden was wearing his hard hat backwards in the photo op with Sen. Amy Klobuchar and some construction workers in Superior, Wisconsin. But was he?"
After backlash from comments on the social media platform, the Snopes editors wrote on the reversed fact-check, with a three-paragraph correction, saying, "The prevailing counter-argument is that if the suspension of the hat has been purposely configured by its owner such that the bill and tightening knob are worn to the back (as was the case of the hat Biden wore), to wear that hat with the bill facing forward is, practically speaking, to wear it backwards.
Therefore, it's argued, it's actually true that, in the photo op discussed below, Biden was wearing it backwards. The strap and tightening knob, which should have been behind Biden's head, were on his forehead."
The fact-check outlet had previously stated Biden wore the hat in standard fashion. The writers then summed this up to mean, "A corollary to that argument is 'Biden looks damn silly in any case.'"
Continuing the correction they wrote, "We find these arguments sound. Therefore, the claim 'President Joe Biden wore a hard hat backwards during a photo op with union construction workers in Superior, Wisconsin' is true, and this fact check has been re-rated as such. Thanks to all who argued on behalf of this correction."
Pure genius. What a guy!
One they couldn’t ignore the true photographic evidence that proves it.
Second too many people who wear hard hats can easily prove snopes to be incorrect
Third this stupid topic is not the anthill snopes wants its credibility to seriously die on.
They got roasted on Twitter.
For the average person
Not us conservatives
Sometimes I would put my hard hat on backwards to help keep rain from going down the back of my neck or when I needed to look up a lot.
Just saying.
Joe potato brain is just a dorky looking bastard through and through….he does not even know how to adjust the head strap.
Those guys posing with him trolled him hard.
Biden has never really used his hands to work a day in his life , he is 1000% a grifting life long scumbag politician and everyone should know it.
I love the picture.
They Dukakis’ed him.
That tortured retraction tells me two things: Snopes is just a shill for the DNC (we knew that but come on) and they have never worn a hardhat or apparently even seen one in their isolated, soft lives.
When I used to work on ships under construction I had a hard time on some passageways and inclined ladders seeing the obstructions over my head because of the bill so I flipped it around backwards at times for more unobstructed view above. It's not outrageous but it looks dumb and you might need to do it on a job site every once in a while but you don't do that for a photo op.
Thought that hard hats were to prevent brain injury? Too late for the PedoMeister.
Funny cuz the snopes guy never wore a hard hat. Some hats have brims front and back to protect the wearers neck in the back. snopes calls it a bill. the tightening knob is always on the back.
Hey, he wore it eight-side up.That’s a victory for him.
I know some guys that flip the webbing around backwards so the bulky adjustment thing is at the back of the head, and the bill faces backwards too. Not sure if it was just to look cool or served a purpose (such as visibility, etc.).
Worn backwards because there was no union label on the front?
Liberals are familiar with tightening knobs because they have them on their bicycle helmets.
Biden had to wear the hard hat backwards b/c there
was a 'Trump for President' sticker on the front of it.
My guess is some woke staffer with an Ivy League degree in alternative lifestyles put the hardhat on Ole Joe who wouldn’t know if his underware was on backwards.
“Fact Checking” = another tool the left uses to take a complete lie and turn it into the truth.
Amazing to me how few people know about Hard hats.
If you work where you have to watch above for dangerous stuff from above, you reverse the hats guts and wear the part with the bill over your neck.
Every morning you fold and tuck two paper towels into the sweatband to keep it clean from the day’s sweat or you end up with a moldy, nasty thing. in no time.
