Jury orders Trump to pay $83.3 million for defaming E. Jean Carroll

NEW YORK — A federal jury ordered former President Trump to pay $83.3 million for defaming E. Jean Carroll when Trump in 2019 denied the longtime advice columnist’s accusation that he sexually assaulted her decades earlier.

It marks the second time Carroll has won damages from Trump at trial, with the new total adding to a $5 million verdict last year finding Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her over a separate comment.

Carroll’s latest trial became intertwined with the heat of the early primary contests, beginning the day after Trump’s historic win in the Iowa caucuses and proceeding past the New Hampshire primary, when Trump further cemented his status as the indisputable Republican front-runner.

Will never hold up on appeal. There were so many prejudicial decisions by the judge, the verdict cannot stand.

....that would be negotiable. He could put up a letter of credit, or real estate or a CD or stock or whatever. The attorneys usually control that because they will demand of their client that their 33% (or higher) is covered to their satisfaction.

In Texas though, she likely would be entitled to pre judgement and post judgement interest. That runs the bill up quick because the interest rate charged is “statutory” and in N.Y. I’ll bet statutory interest is high.

Don’t be so sure. I can only speak to CA, but here he would have to post a bond on appeal, and the judgment would accrue 10% interest. Otherwise the plaintiff could start levying on assets

You know they stretch every law and every verdict to basically create new laws... which Trump having been subjected to them will have his own lawyers using those judgements against those who enabled this lawfare to be tried and convicted by the very same circumstance.

It is going to painful for many democrats to find themselves on the sentencing end of the very new legal judgements they used against Trump.

Adding defamation for defending oneself is a new twist - nevrer met a democrat who could keep their mouth shut in the courtroom - emotionally triggered low IQ people who will find themselves in a misery of their creation.

He’s already posted 5 1/2 million to appeal the original verdict, he’ll almost certainly have to do it again.

The judge was salivating while describing how DJT inserted two fingers into the hag’s vagina. Not one, not three, not ten, but exactly two… NY judicial system is truly a gem…

The current structure and reaching rational conclusions of civil along with criminal “law” needs a gigantic overhaul. I would rather that be achieved through non-violence...

unfortunately I heard that in New York, in order to appeal, the person has to put up the original cash reward to be held by a court until the appeal is done.

There is no justice in America any longer. This is when it’s time to call in a biker gang.

Remember all the talk of NFL boycotts? Not a week goes by where we don’t have dozens of the threads right here about NFL football.

“He should sue her for defaming him!”

DJT has lots of fame and earns much of his income by licensing his name.

Every time I hear a news report discussing the jury of his peers I can’t help but laugh. I doubt there’s a single member of that jury that anyone with half of mine would consider a peer to Donald Trump.

************

Trump’s only peers are the Men who have held the Presidency.

It’s a very Small Club.
