You are right. The English language has been very much "dumbed down" in recent decades.

Winston was a terrific speaker and extremely well educated!
He was also very well read, from childhood onwards.

Churchhill’s command of the English language was astounding.
He was a true statement for his time, and the man England needed most when it was under siege from the forces of national Socialism…
And he knew that Stalin was a POS as well.
