Former President Trump on Wednesday suggested he knows who’s in the running as his vice presidential pick should he win the GOP nomination.
Trump attended a Fox News town hall in Iowa, where anchor Martha MacCallum asked who would be in contention to join him on the Republican ticket.
“Well I can’t tell you that really. I mean, I know who it’s going to be,” Trump said.
Asked if he’d be willing to consider any of the people who ran against him in the primary, Trump indicated he would.
“I’ve already started to like Christie better,” Trump quipped, a reference to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) dropping out of the primary race earlier in the day and criticizing fellow candidate Nikki Haley in the process.
NBC News reported that a Trump campaign adviser clarified that nothing is finalized in terms of a vice presidential pick.
Trump is the dominant frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, maintaining a comfortable lead in national and state-level polling dating back to when he announced his candidacy in November 2022.
Polling averages from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ show Trump leading his GOP rivals by 53 percentage points in national surveys, by 36 points in Iowa and by 11 points in New Hampshire.
Trump has largely been mum about who he might choose as a running mate, though he has named South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) as an option he’d consider. The former president is not expected to pick his previous running mate and vice president, Mike Pence, for another campaign.
Trump allies have pushed for a female running mate, with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) and Haley among others mentioned.
Nope. He does not have enough experience and he is running for governor of NC. He is also a flamethrower and one on the ticket is enough. The VP needs to balance the ticket and it needs someone with executive experience.
Voters like governors as presidents and Trump needs a female to soften Trump and increase his appeal among suburban women voters who think he is Satan’s spawn.
Kristi Noem. Book it.
Trump picking Dr. Ben Carson would signal a play to go after black men. Splitting them from the stereotypical “assertive” black woman with an attitude who cares so much about having abortion as a legal method of birth control could make for interesting politics in the urban areas.
My short list:
Rand Paul
J.D. Vance
Mike Lee
Josh Hawley
MTG would be a disaster...an out of control disaster. She is not ready for prime time and I doubt she will ever be. Trump needs more than someone who agrees with him...there are millions out there better than MTG - several of my neighbors would fit that bill.
I like MTG and her role from NW Georgia is as big as it will ever be. Trump needs someone who balances him out. He does not need someone who gets into a fistfight with Boebert, who is not even going to win her primary.
I like Elise Stefanik a lot and hope she has a great future ahead, but think she’s far too valuable in her current leadership post.
Furthermore, I sincerely hope she’ll retain her CD seat if the NY district lines have to be redrawn.
THAT Woman will FIGHT!
I can’t spare her.
I respect and appreciate your thoughts regarding MTG.
The president can’t abolish mail-in votes. Election law is reserved for the states. Each state law is different as to how elections are conducted.
That is why some states voting closes at 6, some at 7, etc. That is why early voting varies and how it is conducted. That is why some states require registering 30 days before a vote and some states have same day registration. The variations are endless.
You have misread Christie’s motive in leaving the race. He left the race before the Iowa caucus so his voters (even if it is less than 5%) will boost the other candidates and make the race with Trump more competitive. It won’t work, but that is why he quit the race.
Not true and they don’t run separately, which is why it is called a ticket. The circumstances change, but ultimately the decision is the Presidential nominee. Reagan chose Bush because he thought it would unite the two factions of the Republican Party and he was right.
In hindsight, his choice had no bearing on the outcome, but no one knew it at the time. Even though there is endless speculation about who the running mate will be, there is little evidence, the choice makes any difference in how people vote.
.
Good one.
Could someone please pack this... up, as your fourth point of contact?
FROM 2015...

You have not read enough about Noem if you think she is the right VP pick. She allowed men participating in women’s sports in South Dakota, she is not stopping the eminent domain taking of land for the underground CO2 capture. It was the legislature, not Noem which prevented severe lockdown and severe Covid restrictions on the state-she just didn’t veto the legislation , but took credit for it and she has had cosmetic surgery on her face which makes her look ridiculous with the puffy lips. Cosmetic surgery with really visible change in the woman’s face is a sign of emotional instability in my opinion. She was also allegedly having an affair with Corey Lewandowski, a married man with 4 children. You are right about Mark Robinson.
It could be someone presidential and loyal like Mike Pompeo or Devin Nunes, who could also serve in the cabinet.
I would put Vivek in charge of de-Nazification.
Mike Pompeo
VP will be Steven K Bannon
Noem or Stefanik
Trump will not pick anyone who might upstage him, so no strong candidates good or bad-and certainly not going to be a congressman with a razor thin margin for GOP
