Former President Trump on Wednesday suggested he knows who’s in the running as his vice presidential pick should he win the GOP nomination.
Trump attended a Fox News town hall in Iowa, where anchor Martha MacCallum asked who would be in contention to join him on the Republican ticket.
“Well I can’t tell you that really. I mean, I know who it’s going to be,” Trump said.
Asked if he’d be willing to consider any of the people who ran against him in the primary, Trump indicated he would.
“I’ve already started to like Christie better,” Trump quipped, a reference to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) dropping out of the primary race earlier in the day and criticizing fellow candidate Nikki Haley in the process.
NBC News reported that a Trump campaign adviser clarified that nothing is finalized in terms of a vice presidential pick.
Trump is the dominant frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, maintaining a comfortable lead in national and state-level polling dating back to when he announced his candidacy in November 2022.
Polling averages from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ show Trump leading his GOP rivals by 53 percentage points in national surveys, by 36 points in Iowa and by 11 points in New Hampshire.
Trump has largely been mum about who he might choose as a running mate, though he has named South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) as an option he’d consider. The former president is not expected to pick his previous running mate and vice president, Mike Pence, for another campaign.
Trump allies have pushed for a female running mate, with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) and Haley among others mentioned.
It he actually picked Stephen Miller, the VP debate would really be something. I don’t see it happening, but the overall campaign wouldn’t have a problem with messaging.
Trump should pick me.
Out spoken, pugnacious, Marine, questionable background, long time political affiliation with ultra Right-Wing political web forum, etc...
You’re too far left for me!............... 😉
MTG
I wish, ergo, it won’t happen..............
Trump gives a tease waits for yellow media to pounce then cage them.
Elise Stephanik
Of the three Noem is the better choice - executive position more accomplishments in such a position.
Ronald Reagan said being a governor was the best training for the presidency. The two positions are very similar. Legislative experience not nearly the same. Historically legislators have been poor presidents. Ther have been very few exceptions.
LOL... It’s my libertarian side. Mea culpa. Make’s me a good business advocate though... :-)
My prediction is Kari Lake, but we may get another Pence in a dress..............
When are you butt hurt losers going to accept you lost, and not by a little.
Trump has never been on the “right.” He is not a conservative.
He loves spending. He loves debt. He is a NY Republican, at best.
He is a populist.
Byron Donalds, please!
It will probably be a woman...................
“The pick HAS to be 100% dyed-in-the-wool MAGA!”
JD Vance or Rand Paul.
MTG isn’t smart enough.
Bannon or Tucker and I will be ELATED!!!!
I just hope it’s not Noem. I like her as a Governor... but SD protects my Left Flank and I don’t want some RINO squeaking in and ruin SD for me...
