Arctic Blast Map Shows States Bracing for 50 Degree Temperature Drop
Newsweek ^ | 01 10 2024 | Anna Skinner

Posted on 01/10/2024 6:04:29 PM PST by yesthatjallen

An arctic blast will plunge most of the United States into "dangerously cold" territory this weekend, and maps shared by AccuWeather and the National Weather Service (NWS) reveal which states can expect to get hit the hardest by the arctic weather—one of which will face temperatures up to 60 degrees below zero.

The frigid air will spread southward across the U.S. this weekend following a series of winter storms that brought gusty winds, cold temperatures and heavy precipitation to most of the nation this week, including snow in Hawaii.

"Frigid Arctic air will begin to spread southward across the heart of the country this weekend and is expected to continue into next week. Much below normal temperatures along with gusty winds will lead to wind chills well below zero for many locations." - NWS Weather Prediction Center

Climatologists report that a natural phenomenon will occur this weekend, whereby the CO2 levels ill inexplicably disappear from our atmosphere, causing a deep freeze across the country. Not to worry, they said, they will re-appear on Tuesday.

Office workers commute in a totally different environment than some guy on a ranch with a Ford F-150.

In the urban environments, there are plenty of idiots who don't know how to drive in snow/ice or drive with bald tires.

I've had a few car accidents in my life and all but two of them involved some other driver sideswiping or rear-ending me in wintry conditions because they were going to fast or couldn't stop on time.

For that reason, I'm perfectly happy to keep my car parked when it is snowing, even if it is a Subaru Outback (excellent car for driving in snowy conditions).

The Texas Weather Center guy reports on Texas weather only and he’s really good at it.

No hype.

He’s also got a wry sense of humor, which I appreciate. Makes having my morning coffee more fun. ;-)

They also do storm chasing.

For those who are interested, there’s an app and their forecasting is as dependable as any I’ve seen.

***but I’d never heard of a work snow day.***

Same thing happened to me back in Jan 1977. I too had come from the Mountain States and was living in the Ozarks.
Bad blizzard that month. So bad when I tried to go to work my truck turned around on it’s own and headed back to the house. I had to call in I could not make it. I was 25 miles from my job.

Next day I started out, passed by cars in the ditch, cars stalled on the road, and made it in, only to find they had called the day off due to snow.

Thanks for posting these great and unanswered ?’s!

“I keep wondering where did all that smoke from the Canadian fires go? And where does all the pollution from the volcanos go? Could the earth be big enough to absorb and process them? How many cow farts or how much pig manure smells would equal 10 minutes of a volcano eruption?

Clever and nicely done. As I write this, it’s 21F and ripping down snow.
