Maine secretary of state disqualifies Trump from 2024 ballot

Maine’s Democratic Secretary of State Shenna Bellows on Thursday disqualified former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot, citing the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause.

“I do not reach this conclusion lightly. Democracy is sacred,” Bellows wrote in her 34-page decision on multiple complaints challenging the 77-year-old Trump’s eligibility for the primary ballot in Maine based on his actions leading up to and during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol.

“I am mindful that no Secretary of State has ever deprived a presidential candidate of ballot access based on Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment. I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection,” she stated, calling the riot at the Capitol “unprecedented and tragic.”

“They were an attack not only upon the Capitol and government officials, but also an attack on the rule of law. The evidence here demonstrates that they occurred at the behest of, and with the knowledge and support of, the outgoing President,” Bellows argued.

“I conclude that the Rosen and Royal Challengers have met their burden … They have provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate the falsity of Mr. Trump’s declaration that he meets the qualifications of the office of the presidency. Therefore, as required … I find that the primary petition of Mr. Trump is invalid,” she ruled.

Bellows noted that her decision would be suspended until the Maine Superior Court rules on the Trump campaign’s expected appeal.

The Maine Republican primary election will take place on March 5.

Unlike in Colorado and Michigan, Maine’s process for ballot eligibility is first deliberated by the secretary of state before courts can get involved.

Just virtue signalling to the fern bar folks in Portland, (which is becoming San Fran Sicko East).

“I am also mindful, however, that no presidential candidate has ever before engaged in insurrection,” she stated”

Her mismanaged mind is causing her a problem in this matter.

She must be looking to run for higher office and thinks latching onto outdated lies will help?

Something I have repeatedly posted:

January 6th was a riot, not an insurrection. If it had been an insurrection, they would have done something other than wandering around aimlessly once they had control of the capital. If it had been an insurrection, they would have been armed. Trump has been charged using a lot of bogus legal theories, but not even the special council is willing to make a legal claim that Trump engaged in insurrection.

Yes, there was a violent riot at the capital. People who attacked police officers absolutely should have the book thrown at them. And there is a legitimate criticism that Trump should have acted fasted to tell people to go home. But those don’t turn a riot into an insurrection.

Yes, Sheena, democracy is sacred, as is our Republic. That said, voting without vote fraud is also sacred, and there is no democracy without it. Freedom of speech and the right to assemble are also sacred.

“Yes, there was a violent riot at the capital.”

No. It was not a riot, it was a false flag event. FIB and DC Keystone Cops propagated this crap.

Looks like the Soros project to elect secretaries of state is bearing fruit. It’s not enough that these rogue communists be overturned by the courts. They must be driven from office and humiliated. The left is riding the insurrection hoax into the ground.

From 2005 to 2013, Secretary Bellows was executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine. She was a member of the first Right to Know Advisory Committee and the Maine Freedom of Information Coalition. She served on the Executive Committee of the 2009 and 2012 ballot campaigns to pass marriage equality in Maine, and co-chaired a successful 2011 statewide ballot campaign to restore same-day voter registration. She was an original member of the Committee for Ranked Choice Voting.

Interesting that a state with both RCV and RCV-enabled electronic voting machines sees a need to do this...

Blue state, my glutes.

Are we to the place people lie better than truth and they are believed? This crap they continually make up and pin on Trump.. They put here in hinter land believe it?

They charge a case where people took to showing their disagreement and Trump was not at the capital.. With insurrection. They had to go to the limit.

Then there is Biden opened the gates so the world can invade our country by the millions.. That is a case of treason.. Terrorists among them.. Gov says to be careful.. Still can’t carry a gun.. Defenseless living near the border..
It’s treason to let an enemy come in and give up our borders to anyone who wants to come in.

She’s watching all her contemporaries getting on board with this new offensive against Trump, being richly rewarded for it, and she wishes to claim a share for herself.
