How about that green-leaning Democrat governor of Maine who asked EV drivers to desist because of that statewide power shortage.
The people buying those early EVs just weren’t paying attention, I guess. Now they may pay for their mistake. If folks had really been paying attention, it probably wouldn’t have gone this far. Even then, the auto execs weren’t paying attention either, I guess. If nothing else, they should have known that so many average drivers couldn’t afford one of these overpriced mistakes. I sure wish Toyota would go back & build the ‘89 Camry & American manufacturers would follow suit with something similar & priced accordingly.
EV buyers should be forced to hand-write a Thank You note to every taxpayer.
There are videos on YouTube showing lots full of $100K pickups. Guys showing the videos explain that despite customers wanting midsize pickup trucks, the makers won't produce many, and dealers are lucky to get a couple midsize trucks that go from $30,000 to $50,000. The makers push $90,000 to $100,000 pickups and the dealers mark them up even higher, resulting in the glut. This is all by plan. Greed.
People want to pay $30,000 to $50,000 for a pickup for simple chores, and not an expensive luxury useless vehicle.
The auto gossip now, is that Nissan is building and will again sell compact trucks, will sell them starting at $20,000. Smaller than their Frontier models which have grown in size recently.
Same reason I’d be with buying a base 2024 Prius LE for $28k but there are literally none as they are pushing the $38k XLE or Limited models and then they track on another $8-$10k

My daughter bought a 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid brand new, for about $20k. It licensed the tech from Toyota. Really good car, daughter still drives it now. But we tried to buy another Nissan Altima Hybrid not too long after but Nissan had discontinued them. They were pushing more expensive ICE vehicles. At least Toyota kept making hybrids, although they did jack up the prices. Greed all around. You can't find simple models without huge dealer add-ons and markups.

In farm country, they are needed for hauling tanks of fertilizer, diesel (for tractors and other equipment), an farm equipment. The taqueria I go to for breakfast every morning has a parking lot full of big trucks (yes, $90 to $100K). Very few other vehicles, all my farmer friends.
While waiting for them to open it’s a parade of big trucks going to work

not just dependability is at issue, but limited utility is an even bigger issue ... around here, weather extremes cause EVs to hibernate during the winter and take 3-month siestas in the summer ...

I think the best way to do it is to use sand. Lots of sand and quickly. We'll have to build new fire trucks to handle lithium fires. And each fire station will need to have their sand supply.
