Does the local law require background investigations for private transfers? If not wouldn’t this fall under that?
Of course, I think it’s hilarious that they are basically being taken to task for something they agree with....

Could a gun buyback be a gateway to arm antifa?Yes, but why bother, call ATF and they'll gladly deliver, just like they did for the Cartels with Fast and Furious.

Nothing will happen. The scumbag collectivists at NMPGV have already won by daring law enforcement to do something about it. The Sheriff already folded like a cheap suit and I certainly don’t expect ATF to be distracted from their quest to subvert the constitution. There’s little chance of anyone at NMPGV being held responsible. Pitiful that law enforcement has been neutered at so many levels.

It does. It changed in New Mexico a year or two ago. Now private parties cannot transfer guns (except possibly inheritances etc) but certainly NOT a private group.
It’s a clear violation of the law.

Looks like they took a bandsaw and cut straight through scope, stock, and everything. Plus, gotta love all of those dangerous “assault” shotguns and bolt action rifles. Whew, good thing they got those off the streets.
I’d love to know how many traded in their old bolt action for some money toward a shiny new AR-15. And I really, really hope the fools running this thing get the book thrown at them in the same way they certainly would be crying for if it were pro-2A conservatives transferring firearms.
In case it hasn’t been mentioned in the last two seconds, liberals are morons.

I am a Life Member of the NRA. That said, if the firearms are promptly destroyed then where’s the harm? Does the owner need to toss the firearm into a shredder? Would that be acceptable?

As a transaction, and depending on the state, there are few, if any laws restricting someone from buying a firearm, regardless of the purpose. However, one needs a federal permit to sell one. Buying a gun from an unlicensed private party is called a “straw purchase” and is illegal and the main source of weapons being used in crime. In short, the onus is on the seller, not the buyer.

Yea, actually it is a Federal Offense to destroy a firearm.
De milling of a firearm must be preformed by a licensed Gunsmith or other licensed authority, and be recorder as such.
