New York bill would force some Chick-fil-A locations to open on Sundays

A new bill filed in the New York State Assembly aims to force some Chick-fil-A locations to operate seven days a week, threatening the fast food chain's longstanding policy of keeping its restaurants closed on Sundays.

The legislation proposed last week would require all food vendors operating at rest stops owned by the New York State Thruway Authority to open every day, and names Chick-fil-A as the reason behind the move.

"While there is nothing objectionable about a fast food restaurant closing on a particular day of the week, service areas dedicated to travelers is an inappropriate location for such a restaurant," the bill's justification reads. "Publicly owned service areas should use their space to maximally benefit the public. Allowing for retail space to go unused one seventh of the week or more is a disservice and unnecessary inconvenience to travelers who rely on these service areas."

Ever since it opened in 1946, Chick-fil-A has closed its locations on Sunday. It now has 3,000 locations in the U.S. The company currently operates seven restaurants owned by New York's Thruway Authority, and the proposed legislation would impact all future contracts.

but...Trump is a dictator ??? Biden blasts GOP for banning books.....but, no problem banning certain cars or fans or stoves or air conditioners or lawn mowers..etc.

Hypocrites but much worse, they continue to get away with restricting our freedoms, including freedom of speech!

God help America!

"Applegreen is the brand name for the private company that signed a lease with the Authority last year to renovate the service areas and operate them for 33 years."

It's an Irish company, so do you know who the NY Democrats and their big donors are that got that 33 year deal?

“You can ‘freely’ exit and re-enter where ever you want. Pay out, then restart a new ticket when you get back on the road. I did that a lot over the years, no biggie.”

Special places seem to be found on toll roads - The Thruway, NJ Turnpike, I-95 east of Baltimore. I still remember the name of Molly Pitcher.

It’s a Petrol company too, so I’m wondering if they’ll be gradually replacing the current gas companies on the Thruway too. No big business or long-term contract gets done in New York State without some Democrats and their donors making out like bandits. Andrew Cuomo was the King of that.

Correct. As Reno pointed out, the legislation affects future contracts. If New York wants to renegotiate the current contract that opens a whole can of legal worms.

It says the next contract. Is it closed on Sundays for religious reasons...like Hobby Lobby?

I remember the days when no store was allowed to be open on Sunday.

“When the project is complete, Chick-fil-A will operate in less than half of the service areas on the Thruway — all of which have at least one other food concept and a convenience store open seven days a week with up to three additional concepts and a convenience store at the largest and highest volume locations,”

I’m sure the CFA execs will hate to be “forced” to be open on sunday and rake even even more cash while keeping their phony Christian credentials intact.

I can’t believe you are supporting this law which is specifically targeting a Christian-owned business.

CFA was compromised by the left long ago. Their being closed on Sunday is nothing more than marketing schtick these days.

Awesome! CFA could open for an hour Sunday morning, have a sermon while serving meals to paying customers, and then close.

Goldman Sachs is the financial backer of that Irish company. I think the Irish company runs the service area facilities and GS raised the capital to do all the renovations.

guess you don’t drive the thru way, many vendors are closed various hours. I was just at some of those rest stops ( the ones not closed for renovations ) 2 months ago and only 1-2 vendors open inside, more were not operating and this was during morning traffic heading north on week day. same for late afternoon traffic heading south on a week day.

They are dirty, poorly maintained, and the floors are FOREVER wet. NY State Thruway employees take three times as long to do anything outside of the thruway. Getting a donut at Dunkin takes 10 minutes and cost damn near twice as much.
