Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) promptly shut down a reporter on Tuesday for accusing Donald Trump of echoing Adolf Hitler.
What is the background? At a campaign rally in New Hampshire over the weekend, Trump said that illegal immigrants, who have flooded over the southern U.S. border in unprecedented numbers under President Joe Biden's watch, are negatively impacting American society. The comments were controversial because Trump used the phrase "poisoning the blood," which the media and Democrats claimed is a nod to Hitler.
When heard in the full context of the speech, Trump was clearly not making a reference to race — as Hitler did in his book "Mein Kampf" — but was referring to the problems that he believes unmitigated immigration has caused in America.
What happened with Vance? During a press gaggle on Tuesday, an Associated Press reporter asked Vance to react to Trump's comments. He did and gave her more than she bargained for.
First, Vance corrected the reporter's framing of the question. Trump did not say all immigrants are "poisoning the blood of America," Vance pointed out before making a critical observation about the media's reaction to the remarks.
SNIP The reporter, however, tried to steer the question back to Trump imitating Hitler, but Vance was having none of it.
"You just framed your question implicitly assuming that Donald Trump is talking about Adolf Hitler. It's absurd! It is absurd," Vance said. "Why do you think that Donald Trump's language is targeted at the blood of the immigrants and not at the blood of the American citizens who are being poisoned by the fentanyl problem?"

Considering our open border and the runaway influx of fentanyl and other illegal drugs, if ANYONE is “poisoning the blood”, it’s JOE BIDEN.

Maybe he should also have mentioned that we don’t know who is crossing the border right now. It could be anyone of a number of people that are coming in to harm the US. Terrorist groups of all kinds have been in the crowds along with Chinese, Muslims, Mexican cartel members, and many others that could be carrying in anything from drugs and weapons to new forms of illnesses like covid we haven’t seen yet. And there’s no way of knowing. Maybe they should ask Biden the same questions about the idiocy he spouts. He provides far more material the media people don’t even have to change.

I wasn't trolling anyone, but I was concerned.
I read a long interview with him about his book. He spent a lot of time talking about the poor choices made by everyone around him in contrast to his own advance. So he was very critical, almost saying all those Rust Belt meth heads deserved it.
I see that sentiment a lot on the right. But that argument doesn't work because you can't base public policy expecting everyone to be at the extreme right side of the bell curve.
I've seen the small town in upstate NY where I went to high school 40 years ago fall into poverty. There used to a be a steel mill, a transmission plant, etc. Now there's nothing but poor paying service jobs apart from the university & government, of course, both paid for with tax money. What were once nice houses are a shambles with amateurishly installed chimney pipes for the wood stoves they have to use now because they can't afford central heating anymore. It's so poor that when you stay at the local motels all the maids are white because Mexicans won't move there.
Vance, like Trump, seems to have understood that if you want a functioning society the majority (who want a job not a handout) have to have the opportunity to earn enough to support a middle class household.
That was the best part. Knuckle sandwich, (metaphorically speaking). Ouch.
