As President Joe Biden grows increasingly mystified by his unpopularity, he is also experiencing the worst polling of his presidency. This plummet was punctuated by last Thursday’s release of several Bloomberg/Morning Consult surveys showing him getting swept in a series of battleground states. Then, on Tuesday, yet another New York Times/Siena College survey showed former President Donald Trump beating Biden nationally and, perhaps most shockingly, with young voters. Now that the contact high of the most recent Democratic election overperformance in November’s off-year contests has worn off, genuine fear has set in among both Democratic insiders and the rank and file as the president trails Trump by 3 points in the RealClearPolitics average.
Precisely how scared Democrats should be about Biden’s standing depends on how his plight compares with those of presidents past. And there’s no sugarcoating it: This might be the worst polling environment for an incumbent president one year out from an election since the advent of the polling era in the 1930s and also the most dire situation facing any Democratic presidential candidate in decades. Panic is entirely warranted.
It’s worth noting that the universe of polling around an incumbent president’s reelection chances is an extremely small sample size. When people make confident claims about the relationship between polling data and outcomes with incumbent presidents, they are largely talking about a whopping 12 post-WWII cases. To make it even harder to draw firm conclusions, as recently as the 1990s (what my students adorably refer to as “the late 1900s”), there were no polling aggregators like RealClearPolitics or FiveThirtyEight because there were not that many surveys, especially this far out from an election.

People don’t seem to understand.
It doesn’t matter that Joe Biden is demented and incompetent. It doesn’t matter that his policies have really damaged the middle class of America. It doesn’t matter that small business are failing and that non-part time jobs are dissappearing. It doesn’t matter that his incompetence as resulted in wars or expansion of wars, in Ukraine, Syria, Israel, and probably Taiwan soon. It doesn’t matter that the US looses Trillions a year on illegal alien costs, and that the American taxpayer can’t afford it. It doesn’t matter that the terrorists have American equipment left in Afghanistan by his poorly executed withdrawal. It doesn’t matter that the nation is weaker, morally confused, and 105 million people are on government support while there is only 140 million working. It doesn’t matter that the national debt is crushing the economy or new families. It doesn’t matter that the political party he is with, the Democrats, have used lawyers and partisan judges to vilify political opponents and are even now trying to deny us the right to vote for a presidential candidate in Colorado. While all of that results in poor polling numbers, NONE OF IT MATTERS.
None of it matters because voting doesn’t matter! It’s rigged, right up and including the greater than 100% voter turnout in counties all over Colorado. The greater than 100% voter turnout in Pennsylvania. The Thousands, if NOT HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of illegal ballots counted in Fulton county Georgia alone. The mules collecting ballots from DNC centers and illegally voting. We the people don’t have a say because our civil rights have been destroyed by Democrats policies and actions that drown out our votes with illegal votes.

Not to get too serious, because I was half-heartedly joking about it not mattering because as bad as it was back in the Carter days, no one was bussing illegal voters around to battle ground states back then and so as bad as it gets, Biden will win the election anyway, but since you brought it up, you are actually making the case that Biden isn’t as bad as Carter was. I forgot how bad things were back then. We have inflation now, and we have relatively high interest rates, but unemployment isn’t bad and we don’t have food and gas lines. Also, not to be a debbie doubter, but besides election fraud, we have a divided country now. At least half of the country are NPCs, ‘woke’ and pre-programmed to vote a certain way. Let me know if you disagree, but I actually think people were more intellectually honest and had better critical thinking skills back in the 70s. In other words, they were capable of rejecting a president over terrible performance then.
Biden’s poll numbers could be in single digits, yet he will garner 90 million votes. Remember the 2020 campaign when Biden’s rallies were pathetic and Trump filled venues to overflowing with enthusiastic crowds? The fix is in for Biden. Trump will be convicted by kangaroo courts on phony charges and jailed. The question is will right thinking American people just accept this fraud.
Of course there’s precedent: Jimmuh and Nixon. I wonder what Buchanan’s polls would have been back in the day when the Confederates took over Fort Sumter after a siege. But they didn’t do polls back then. They do them now, despite the stupidity of the entire concept.
