Former President Donald Trump is facing a backlash after calling one of the most conservative members of Congress a RINO who should be primaried—one week after the filing deadline. Trump blasted Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, on Truth Social after the congressman endorsed Trump’s rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for president.
“Has any smart and energetic Republican in the Great State of Texas decided to run in the Primary against RINO Congressman Chip Roy,” Trump wrote. “For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!”
Trump’s comments appeared to many to be off the mark, as Roy has a 98 percent conservative voting record according to Heritage Action, and is the only Republican who scored a “perfect zero” on voting for Biden’s agenda in 2022, according to Rollcall.
Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Clay Higgins of Louisiana and Bob Good of Virginia and then-Rep. Van Taylor of Texas each voted with Biden on 1 percent of votes in which CQ Roll Call determined the president had a clear position. Because there were only 66 presidential support votes in the House last year, that 1 percent equates to one vote.
Also, as Iowa-based conservative radio host Steve Deace pointed out, the candidate filing deadline for the 2024 primary elections in Texas was December 11, 2023.
“Is anything more Trumpian than threatening one of the only truly honest members of Congress because he doesn’t kneel before Zod, but also stupidly doing so more than a week after the filing deadline?” Deace wrote on X. “Trumpian bluster followed by a Trumpian lack of attention to detail.”

No, he didn’t endorse Trump yet.
Trump has shown he will work with anyone.

So true. Look how well he worked with Fauci to sink his presidency.
But you want more Romney’s who Trump endorsed?
And more Linda Graham’s, who is on Trump SC campaign leadership team. Real that’s real MAGA there.
If Trump isn’t allowed on the ballot in Colorado what does that do to his chances?
“Dear Trump, it’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to continually open your stupid mouth and remove all doubt. SMH.”
Dear rockabyebaby: Do your accomplishments amount to one one thousandth of Trumps? What have you accomplished that sets you up with the ability to call Trump stupid? I bet zero, nothing. You are just a demented DeSantis-bot.
Roy is certainly not reliable, sort of a calculated RINO - just doesn’t go full retard RINO, but boy he sure has his moments sort of like Bush has him on a loose leash and jerks it tight often enough to remind him who is boss. It’s Roy who needs to suck it up and keep his mouth shut.
RINO is not appropriate for Roy.
No. Roy has more than enough RINO moments that he deserves what Trump dishes out.
Trump doesn’t care about the party, Trump doesn’t care who has a majority in Congress or the Senate, his endorsements in the last cycle show that. All he cares about is loyalty to Trump.
“So true. Look how well he worked with Fauci to sink his presidency.”
Oh, so you actually believe Biden got 81 million votes and they were all legitimate.
That is something that someone with the name chickenlips would believe.
Trump is not conservative, like I want, but he can get things done, despite overwhelming opposition.
I do encourage everyone to vote for the better of what is available, because those are the only choices you can get into office, then.
Trump endorsed McCarthy. A know democrat operative for speaker.
And Chip Roy was one of the loudest voices in the impeachment attempt on Texas AG Ken Paxson.
Well, he was certainly one of the most outspoken Federal elected officials to publicly take up against his old boss, and to support the weasley liar David Maxwell. And he's long been aligned with the Cruz folks, even down to doing most of his fundraising in River Oaks, and not out in Kerrville or Fredricksburg, ie, in his district. So, yeah, a good conservative voting record, but definitely not part of the populist MAGA movement.
Which is kind of the story of this campaign. Many smart people with at least a few years of on-the-ground political experience saw Ron DeSantis as the "electable" candidate, and a way to get conservative policies implemented, ie, acting as if this election, and by implication, 2020 are just "politics as usual". The Republican primary voters don't think this is "business as usual", with an obvious weaponization of the courts and legal system to cover for a transparently stolen election in 2020 (and 2022 to a somewhat lesser extent).
Trump's going to be the nominee. The rest of the party needs to come to grips with that, and start working to figure out how to get him elected, or just get out of the way. Chip is firmly in that category.
And Trump's not wrong about his district. Deb Heine calls him an "Austin" representative, which isn't accurate. His district runs to the west of Austin, and picks up a northern San Antonio suburb, and then covers the solidly red Kendall, Kerr, Bandera, Blanco, and Hays counties. Which were formerly considered conservative, but post Trump, also lean populist. Chip is no populist, which is the reason he's so popular with the good people at the River Oaks Country Club, but he might want to consider driving out to Fredburg and chatting with the people at Bill's Bar-B-Que every now and then as well. He'll probably discover that Trump's got at better sense of the mood in his district that Chip does.

Odawg you are just like trump....have to add the insults. A typical trumpista.
“Sometimes Trumps mouth is his on worst enemy.”
Sometimes someone can read a BS headline and believe that it came down from on high.
Almost everyone in dc is part of tge swamp.
And they still are.
You can see all the RINO NPCs had advance notice of the Colorado supreme court ruling and have been activated.
“Trump isn’t perfect but he’s still better than the rest seeking the nomination.”
There is that weasel logic again. Let me ask you, have you ever seen or have you ever known a perfect person? Are you a perfect person? Why do you feel obligated to preface your endorsement with those words? Are you so “whupped” by the MSM who sneeringly claim that Trump supporters don’t just support Trump, they worship Trump?
Does anyone ever preface their endorsement of Biden, for example, by saying, that “although he is not perfect...”? Did the MSM ever accuse democrats who almost lost their minds over ecstatically supporting Hillary Clinton of worshipping her?
Did Chip Roy, when he endorsed DeSantis, did he preface his endorsement by saying, “Although DeSantis is not perfect...”? Therefore, does Chip Roy think DeSantis is perfect?
“Odawg you are just like trump....have to add the insults. A typical trumpista.”
Why is that an insult? For his statement to be true, he is required to believe that Biden legitimately got 81 million votes.
Isn’t accusing someone of being a “typical trumpista” an insult, and that is very hypocritical of you. You are just a low IQ DeSantis-bot and THAT is an insult.
