Former President Donald Trump is facing a backlash after calling one of the most conservative members of Congress a RINO who should be primaried—one week after the filing deadline. Trump blasted Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, on Truth Social after the congressman endorsed Trump’s rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for president.
“Has any smart and energetic Republican in the Great State of Texas decided to run in the Primary against RINO Congressman Chip Roy,” Trump wrote. “For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!”
Trump’s comments appeared to many to be off the mark, as Roy has a 98 percent conservative voting record according to Heritage Action, and is the only Republican who scored a “perfect zero” on voting for Biden’s agenda in 2022, according to Rollcall.
Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Clay Higgins of Louisiana and Bob Good of Virginia and then-Rep. Van Taylor of Texas each voted with Biden on 1 percent of votes in which CQ Roll Call determined the president had a clear position. Because there were only 66 presidential support votes in the House last year, that 1 percent equates to one vote.
Also, as Iowa-based conservative radio host Steve Deace pointed out, the candidate filing deadline for the 2024 primary elections in Texas was December 11, 2023.
“Is anything more Trumpian than threatening one of the only truly honest members of Congress because he doesn’t kneel before Zod, but also stupidly doing so more than a week after the filing deadline?” Deace wrote on X. “Trumpian bluster followed by a Trumpian lack of attention to detail.”

No. Trump is right here. As usual. Like he was with DeSantis
“ Backlash from who? Other rinosyes. Keep an eye on who they are.
“Backlash from who?”
The 7-12 year-old demographic. /s
“...he endorsed DeSantis...”
And needs to provde a detailed logic for the support of his position.
“ Trump sure knows how to encourage people to support him. No wonder almost everyone in office or appointed by him has turned on him.”
Yes. Almost everyone in dc is part of tge swamp. A 150 year old swamp
..that may be, but here in Texas he is quite highly regarded...maybe he saw something(s) in DeSantis that was in tune with his own political philosophy, but still, I can’t see why Trump would call him a RINO....the more Trump opens his mouth, at times, the more I wonder about his mental state....this was uncalled for in my opinion...
And one more time:
An anchor baby is a baby born to a mother who was pregnant and near delivery when she was smuggled across the border. That baby anchors her. It is a US citizen by virtue of birth within US jurisdiction and thus is the anchor that she is tied to and can thus remain.
I have never, until the recent handful of wackos spoke up, heard “anchor baby” assigned to a natural born citizen whose parents were permanent resident aliens, in the US in an entirely lawful way. That baby is not an anchor that holds them in place. They were in place legally to begin with.
There is no anchor action in the process. There most certainly is when a baby is born to illegals on US soil. THAT baby anchors them in place.
The person who posted this is an anti-Trumper who thinks all Trump supporters blindly worship Trump no matter what. I was just making the point that we all aren’t all blind worshippers, rather some of us consider Trump the only rational choice.
And Chip Roy was one of the loudest voices in the impeachment attempt on Texas AG Ken Paxson.
Trump does a perfectly fine job of diminishing himself.
Chip Roy is one of the good guys...he’s fighting hard, in the trenches, every single day.
We would be lucky to have more like him.
Trump needs to shut his piehole.
One of Trump’s biggest problems is liking the sound of his own voice entirely too much. He says many things that need to be said, but then needs to button his lip.
Seems to work. Most of these clowns dont survive the public jousts. Ask DeSantis
I agree with you. Chip Roy is one of the few energetic and charismatic public speakers in our party. He is someone you want on your team.
Dear Trump, it’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to continually open your stupid mouth and remove all doubt. SMH.
You see? This is the same crap. Understand what conservatism is.
It is Drain the Swamp
It is Build the Wall
It is American First In All Things
IN THAT ORDER. These faux conservatives never embrace item 1, which would require opposition to all things RNC and the donor class.
Populism is ascendant. It is the purest form of Conservatism. A guy who opposes taxes is not a litmus test. The number one litmus test is eradication of the political class, and it’s hard for one to pass that test if they have had a political career.
You make it sound like it’s a bad thing to be called a “RINO.”
“ what does Trump think he gains by this kind of infighting, when he’s 50 points ahead?”
Getting rid of a Rino.
