A crushing budget deficit has forced San Francisco Mayor London Breed to eliminate the budget of the Office of Reparations, which was considering lavish payouts to long-term black residents of the city, though it never practiced or allowed slavery.

Don’t worry NYC is taking care of that part of the race to anarchy.

All the illegals have put such a burden on the city’s budget the mayor is offering up 20% across the board cuts including the police, which already is suffering from the cuts DeBlasio put thru.

That's what happens when your committee recommends: * One time payment of $5 million per eligible person * Guaranteed income of $95,000 per eligible household * Free education up to and including advanced degrees for eligible persons * Tax abatements for eligible persons Etc., etc.

Read it all here: https://sf.gov/sites/default/files/2023-07/AARAC%20Reparations%20Final%20Report%20July%207%2C%202023.pdf

We had property in California, as in Germany. We sold and got out. Twice.

It won’t be enough to satisfy them. It’s never enough...It also encourages every other “victim” group in the U.S. - and there are a LOT of them - to demand their own reparations for whatever grievance, perceived or otherwise.

It’s a way to get money without having to work for it.

Did they ever find the homeless who were ‘relocated’ from downtown San Francisco to an undisclosed location??

I’ve read articles that they are no where to be seen.

It was never about reparation for slavery, it was just another Democrat wealth distribution scheme taking money from the taxpayers and distributing it to their friends, families and supporters.

If you ever watched the movie THE PRODUCERS the scheme is the same. You start a project that you know will never be successful, get money for it and then it fails. No one audits the failures.

SF real estate is already crashing.

Largest city MALL announced over 6 months ago that theyw ere NOT paying the mortgage.

A number of HIGH end renters have already left-—

IIRC—_THE OLDEST MEN’S haberdashery closed down after over 100 +++ years. Was a renter in that mall I think.

There was never any serious plan to pay reparations.

It was nothing more than a carrot to dangle in front of certain folks for votes.

I believe committees were formed to appease the reparation activists - the pols in favor of this (Gavin Newsom) never believed anything would ever come of it.

When the committee presented their “findings” and list of demands, the likes of Newsom backed way way off - realizing California does not have the money in its budget and that it is extremely unpopular with voters (especially in national elections, which Newsom is very interested in for 2024).

This puts an end to any hopes of reparations.

I read another, probably more accurate report, that said one million in the past five years have fled California.

As Jon Coupal of the Howard Jarvis Foundation reports: “What is moving into the state earns profoundly less than what is leaving the state.”

I loved that mall, my daughter and I used to shop there, the Nordstroms was on the top floors - beautiful and clean.

Now, due to the policies of idiot politicians and idiots who vote for them, the entire mall is shuttered.

Yup—what is important is not how many are leaving—it is who are leaving.

The tax donkeys are starting to get a clue.

SanFran has spent so much money they don’t have that they are forced to stop considering illegal wealth theft to give away money they don’t have!

Not only that, but California’s refusal to allow slavery was one of the reasons the Civil War was kicked off. They didn’t want plantation owners waltzing in and putting their slaves in the gold mining camps, so they outlawed it from the start. That launched the whole argument.
